Nutrition and Food Program Coordinator
Location: #200 12308 111 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta

Position Status: Two (2), Full-time (40 hours/week), Permanent
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for two Nutrition and Food Program Coordinators to support the development and implementation of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government’s School Food Program. Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, the successful candidates will be responsible for developing and implementing the School Food Program designed to improve access to nutritious food that supports improved health and learning outcomes, reduces hunger, supports local economies, and promotes sustainability for Métis children. Successful candidates will have experience with development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and a desire to improve outcomes for Métis Albertans.
Key Responsibilities
-
Design and implement partnership-based food initiatives that improves access to nutritious meals and promotes health, learning, and well-being for Métis children, youth, and families.

Develop and oversee programming including land-based learning opportunities, healthy lunch programs, mobile food education units, meal kit partnerships, and culturally grounded cooking clubs.

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver and expand programming across Alberta.

Lead the development of culturally relevant curriculum and materials related to nutrition education, food skills, budgeting, food safety, and Métis foodways.

Coordinate culturally focused family and youth events such as Métis cooking nights, seasonal food celebrations, and cooking clubs that bring families together through food.

Develop and maintain program documentation such as process documents, templates, evaluation tools, and reporting.

Evaluate program impact and outcomes, collecting both quantitative and qualitative data to support continuous improvement and community accountability.

Support registration and eligibility processes, such as screening for programs and managing participant communications.

Perform other duties as required in support of the vision and priorities of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.
Skills & Competencies
-
Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of community-based programs, ideally in the areas of food security, nutrition, education, or family services.

Passion for supporting Métis children and families with a focus on culturally responsive practices.
-
Strong written communication skills, with the ability to develop clear and compelling reports, proposals, program materials, and presentations for diverse audiences.

Exceptional verbal, listening, and interpersonal communication skills.
-
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Ability to maintain a positive, helpful attitude and be professional, empathetic, and non-judgmental when assisting Métis Albertans.

A proven track record of building collaborative partnerships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including government, industry, service providers, and community.

Committed to continuous improvement, open to feedback, and driven by a passion for positive impact and meaningful change for Métis communities.

Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to identify issues and implement creative solutions to overcome problems.

Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.

Resourceful, proactive, and results driven.

Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Workspace (Google Docs, Google Forms, Google Sheets).

Political and cultural sensitivity and a strong sense of ethics, with the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.

An understanding of the Métis Nation within Alberta, Métis culture, and Métis values with a strong commitment to advancing the well-being of Métis children, youth, and families through culturally grounded programming.
Qualifications
-
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Early Learning, Human or Social Services, or related field is preferred.
-
A related degree or equivalent experience will be considered.
-
Three (3) years of experience in a similar role is an asset.
-
Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.
Other Requirements
-
Position will be based in Edmonton; in-office presence is required.
-
Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends as required.

Must be willing to travel within Alberta and work irregular hours, on occasion, to meet program needs
-
Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
-
Acceptable attainment and annual maintenance of a clear Police Information Check with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check is required.
