About This Opportunity To provide support in managing the component database, creation of new part numbers, REACH and RoHS component compliance and part obsolescence analysis along with supporting hardware design in researching, identifying alternate component solutions and as required testing alternate solutions.
Key Accountabilities In this position, you will be able to see the processes utilized when developing products in an engineering environment, which will vastly improve your understanding of key component characteristics and their application in electrical designs. Your technical and database development skills will help us reduce the number of technical issues raised by our contract manufacturers and improve communication flow.
- Alternate/multi-source Electrical, Electronic, Electromechanical (EEE) & mechanical components
- Standardization of components and maintenance of the component database (AMPL) in SAP and Windchill
- Work in conjunction with Industrialization, Localization, Procurement, Suppliers and Subcontractors to identify and resolve EOL (end-of-life) issues and for new/alternate components
- Prepare complete component specifications for all component families
- Streamline information transfer to our contract manufacturers
- Review component datasheets
- Work with Product HSE team to ensure compliance
Key Requirements
- The successful candidate should be working toward an Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Engineering Science, or Engineering Physics degree.
- Completion of the third year of an undergraduate degree
- Strong written and oral communication skills and familiarity with a project-based work environment.
- Knowledge of key electrical/electronic component characteristics (e.g., transistors, resistors, capacitors, Zener diodes, rectifier diodes, digital logic, LEDs, etc.).
- Understanding of mechanical component specifications and drawings.
- Awareness of HSE requirements (e.g., RoHS, REACH, fire/smoke/toxicity standards, shock/vibration, etc.).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to understand the “big picture” and apply critical thinking to resolve issues.
- Strong attention to detail and curiosity to understand the importance and impact of assigned activities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and VBA Macros.
- The ability to work 40 hours per week for the full duration of the internship is required. During the first month, the intern is expected to be onsite five days a week. From the second month onward, a minimum of three onsite days per week is required, depending on team needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Co-op student available for a 16-month term, with at least one additional quarter or semester of coursework remaining after the completion of the internship.
- Previous co-op/internship experience is a plus.
