About the role

LIFEGUARD / INSTRUCTOR II (Casual) Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. The West Vancouver Community Services Department is currently seeking Casual Lifeguard/Instructor II to join our highly qualified team. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing supervision and leadership to lifeguards, instructors and users of the Aquatic Centre. They will play a key role on the West Vancouver Aquatic Centre leadership team and will be expected to mentor teammates. Additional responsibilities include performing basic maintenance functions and customer service.

The successful candidate is a secondary school graduate and successfully completed courses in lifesaving, swimming instruction and first aid. Previous experience as a Lifeguard and Instructor is required. Desirable training and experience include: minimum of 1 year of experience as an Aquatic Leader, NL Waterfront and previous beach experience, BCRPA Aquatic Fitness Module, Instructor Trainer Certification (NL, SFA, Swim Instructor) and Lifesaving Instructor.

Required Current Licenses And Certificates Include

  • Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor;
  • National Lifeguard – Pool Certificate; and,
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED (or equivalent).

The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check with vulnerable sector and a copy of their credentials. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Rate Of Pay $29.06 per hour (2025 rate) plus 14% in lieu of benefits
