We are Koru.

Koru is a first of its kind venture studio funded by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. We partner with OTPP portfolio companies to build and invest in businesses with a clear right to win.

Founded in 2019, our mission is to drive value creation aimed at growing the overall value of OTPP’s portfolio companies by partnering with them to identify, validate, build and oversee new disruptive businesses. We go from 0-1, building ventures that address customer frictions head-on — and we leverage our corporate partnerships to gain unfair advantages in the market.

If you get excited by building, testing, validating and implementing sales and marketing strategies for innovative products/services that allow new entrants to disrupt existing industries, enjoy working in a collaborative and dynamic startup environment, have an entrepreneurial spirit, and have strong ‘full stack’ marketing chops, then your place may be with us!

As Director, GTM you will: • Provide growth leadership and guidance across all stages of Koru ventures—from early exploration to product build and commercialization.

  • Define and drive growth strategy, execution, and optimization across both B2B and B2C businesses.
  • Develop and implement multi-channel strategies tailored to product needs across the full range of marketing and sales channels.
  • Lead B2B sales execution, including pipeline development, prospect engagement, and enterprise deal management.
  • Design, execute, and optimize A/B and multivariate tests.
  • Conduct market viability assessments, price testing, competitor research, and brand positioning tests.
  • Translate insights into action, overseeing the customer acquisition process from ideation through execution.
  • Define and validate core KPIs—such as cost-per-metric, retention, ROI, and LTV—to guide business growth.
  • Build holistic lead generation and nurturing campaigns, leveraging marketing automation and CRM systems.Contribute to thought leadership on emerging business, technology, and growth topics.
  • Effectively communicate and manage stakeholders to secure buy-in and alignment.
  • Coach and mentor the Growth team across both technical and leadership competencies.
  • Operate with agility and iteration, relentlessly pursuing new, unexploited growth opportunities.

You should have: • 7–10 years of experience leading growth teams in hands-on performance marketing roles within start-up and/or digital environments, driving user acquisition and scaling digital businesses.

  • A proven track record of scaling digital businesses through cross-channel acquisition, conversion, and retention strategies.
  • Demonstrated success in building go-to-market strategies for new products or services.
  • Strong sales acumen with experience in partnership development.Strategic and creative thinking with the ability to analyze, synthesize, recommend, and execute.
  • High self-motivation, initiative, and creative problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and technical intuition.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet aggressive deadlines and influence through persuasive communication.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience collaborating across cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for data and analytics, with proficiency in business intelligence tools such as Google Analytics, Adjust, Optimizely, and Mixpanel.
  • A deep interest in growth marketing and driving customer adoption.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Koru’s offices are located in downtown Toronto. We humbly acknowledge that Koru HQ is located on land that is the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the New Credit, Chippewa (Anishinaabeg), Haudenosaunee, and Wendat. This territory is covered by the ‘Toronto Purchase: Treaty 13’ which was the surrender of the lands from the Mississaugas of the Credit to the British Crown initially in 1787.
