Reporting to the Active Living Manager, you assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents and also responsible for transporting Residents in the company vehicle to various events and activities coordinated by the Residence.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Active Living Manager & Executive Director;
- Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
- Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
- Assists residents with care requirements (walkers/wheelchairs, etc.) while entering and exiting the facility vehicle;
- Transports residents in the facility vehicle to various scheduled locations, outings and events;
- Ports and facilitates residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
- Prepares, carries out and evaluates daily activities;
- Assists with meal services as required;
- Documents resident participation;
- Assists with assessment of individual resident activity levels and keeps up to date with new resident activity preferences by reviewing the assessments and building rapport;
- Remains aware of the Resident Rights & Responsibilities and endeavor to respect and promote it;
- Attends in-service training as required in order to better serve the needs of the residents;
- Attends staff meetings as required to be aware of changes in Residence that have taken place;
- Works in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
- Upholds and promotes the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity;
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must demonstrate strong written and verbal English skills
- Must possess a valid and applicable class of drivers license, with a clean driving record; ON - Class F ; Class B
- College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
- Will have proof of current, valid CPR and First Aid certification
- Enjoys working closely with team members and has a strong desire to provide our residents with a better quality of life
- Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating empathy and patience
- Previous experience working with seniors is considered an asset
- Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
