Your Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity exists in AHS, Calgary Zone. The SHC is a full service hospital that will provide new service to Calgary in all areas. The SHC is more than just a “hospital.” It is a campus environment and will include inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services, as well as prevention and public health learning opportunities for the community. The campus will also include a YMCA and retail services. The SHC has four key pillars of service: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and programmatic hiring. These pillars are guiding the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. An opportunity in Addictions and Mental Health to work in the In-patient acute care unit with the ability to work in the Out-patient setting and Outreach services is available at South Health Campus. Reporting to the Unit Manager of Addiction and Mental health and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will work within the full scope of their professional practice as governed by the College of licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). The Incumbent will be responsible to provide holistic comprehensive care within a recovery model (Tidal Model) from admission to discharge. The successful candidate will be supported through training and orientation in all services area (In-patient, Out-Patient and Outreach). The LPN is guided by their level of education, expertise, experience, demonstrated skill level, Alberta Heath Services policies and job description.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and Recovery Alberta policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and clinical judgment in monitoring and managing all types of aggressive behavior required. Ability to recognize, assess for suicidal risk and to intervene immediately with suicidal client as appropriate. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide medications to mental health clients including psychotropic drugs required. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to assist with mental health treatment such as: electrotherapy (ECT): pre and post ECT care, assist with ECT treatment required. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Legislation, such as Mental Health ACT required. Demonstrated knowledge of the formal certification process and implications required. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team required. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills required. Knowledge and ability to assess mental status required. Knowledge and ability to recognize and intervene in crisis situations required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Mental health experience preferred. Mental Health Certificates an asset. Ability to provide psychosocial intervention as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and while under the direction of an authorized practitioner required. Knowledge about common mental health issues/illnesses required. Ability to identify signs and symptoms of mental health issues required. Knowledge and ability to assess mental status required. Knowledge and ability to recognize and intervene in crisis situations.
