Dispatcher (Help Program) - Cortland County Emergency Response and Communications
The work involves responsibility for receiving and recording E911, police, fire and emergency medical services (EMS) calls and dispatching the appropriate law enforcement agency, firefighters, paramedics and equipment to the scene. The incumbent is required to operate computers, related peripheral equipment, radios, telephones and a variety of other emergency communications equipment in order to receive and relay police, fire, emergency medical service and other personnel to incidents and emergencies. Dispatchers must maintain a high degree of alertness, accuracy and a steady demeanor in responding to crisis situations. Dispatchers perform a wide variety of clerical duties related to their communication functions. The work is performed in accordance with established policy under the general supervision of the Dispatch Coordinator. Does related work as required.
Work Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week with benefits
Salary: $28.5007-41.3455/HR (CSEA-ERAC Union)
Location: Cortland County Emergency Response and Communications
Status: Non-Competitive, Probationary
Benefits: New York State Retirement System, Low Deductible Health Insurance Plan, Generous Paid Time Off including 13 Paid Holidays, Tuition Assistance available after two years of service.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency diploma.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
An applicant must be eligible for all eJustice and NCIC (National Crime Information Center) certifications (pass a criminal background check) at the time of application and, if hired, must maintain such eligibility for the duration of employment. Application must obtain certification in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within six (6) months of appointment, as provided by the Department of Emergency Response (DOER) and maintain such certification for the duration of employment. Applicants must possess Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Certification within six (6) months of appointment, as provided by the Department of Emergency Response (DOER) and maintain such certification for the duration of employment. Applicants must possess Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) Certification within six (6) months of appointment, as provided by the Department of Emergency Response (DOER) and maintain such certification for the duration of employment. Applicants must possess Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) certifications in the following disciplines: PST-1 (Public Safety Telecommunicator) or its equivalent, within one (1) year of appointment, and maintain such certification for the duration of employment.
