We serve local, national and international communities by producing useful information and tools to assist in the daily work to prevent and stop violence towards women and children and vulnerable adults.
Responsibilities
The Financial Assistant supports the advancement of the strategic goals of CREVAWC by working with Centre Directors and the Centre Manager to forecast and model expenses, monitor key financial metrics and assist in decision making processes for projects to ensure smooth financial, operational, and administrative procedures of the department.The role liaises with the Faculty of Education financial support, Western Research and funders as required to resolve financial issues. The Financial Assistant is an integral part of the Centre team, possessing a thorough understanding of the research and education projects conducted through the Centre, the university and broader community. The incumbent is responsible for providing administrative and financial support to the CREVAWC Directors, Project Managers and the Centre Manager by conducting accounting analyses, producing drafts of financial reports and budgets, supporting the resolution of any deficits or over-expenditures, preparing budgets, and maintaining current and accurate records and reports for all projects throughout the life cycle of the projects. The position adheres to generally accepted accounting principles, ensures compliance with university and funding agency policies and supports the proper execution of financial and human resources transactions to fully support the Centre’s staff, faculty, researchers, and students on an ongoing basis.
Qualifications
Education:
-
2-3 year Community College Diploma in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting

Courses in Human Resources would be an asset
Experience:
-
More than 2 years' financial accounting experience in a fund accounting environment
-
Experience working with PeopleSoft Finance and PeopleSoft Human Resources is preferred
-
Experience with Western procurement processes and Mustang Market is an asset
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to complete detailed analytics and reports, proposals and presentations
- Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
- Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Self-motivated multi-tasker with strong organizational skills
- Positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and follow through on work assignments
- Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred
- Proven track record in driving substantial revenue growth and in exceeding revenue goals
- Basic understanding of financial statements, accounting principles and key financial principles
