Position Overview:
The Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the City’s infrastructure and municipal services, working under the guidance of the Manager of Engineering and Projects. This position combines technical expertise with project coordination, contributing to the planning, design, and maintenance of roads, utilities, parks, and public facilities. Responsibilities include preparing design drawings and cost estimates, conducting field surveys, managing records and GIS systems, and assisting with capital and maintenance programs. The role also involves reviewing development proposals, providing technical advice to staff and the public, and ensuring compliance with City standards and bylaws. Ideal candidates will thrive in a collaborative environment, demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, and be comfortable working independently with minimal supervision. Qualifications:

  • Must hold a diploma from a recognized Institute of Technology in the discipline of Civil Engineering Technology (Municipal option preferred), and be registered, or eligible for registration, as an A.Sc.T (or equivalent) with the ASTTBC. Other disciplines or equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Must hold and maintain a valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers License.

  • Must be physically capable of performing the specific duties required.

  • Desirable to have a minimum of two (2) to five (5) years experience related to the specific duties outlined.

  • Desirable to have a minimum of two (2) to five (5) years experience in supervision of employees and/or contractors.

  • Must have considerable knowledge of terminology, materials, methods, labour and equipment employed in Municipal infrastructure planning and construction.

  • Must have advanced skills in AutoCAD and in computer-assisted infrastructure modeling and engineering design and should have GIS application experience with AutoDesk software (MAP, MapGuide, Onsite) and must have appropriate skills in ESRI software (ArcView, ArcInfo, or ArcGIS).

  • Must have an excellent working knowledge in spreadsheet, word processing and database programs (MS Office environment), and in computer file organization and storage, and in computer hardware, plotters and networks.

Position Information:
Wage Rate: $44.84; Effective March 1, 2026 - $46.63
Hours: 37.5; Monday – Friday
Status: CUPE Local 2087 - Permanent Full-Time
Benefits: As per the Collective Agreement; and, Free Single or Family Annual Pass at the Trail Aquatic and Leisure Center
