Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Program

(Contract FT until March 31, 2026)

Catholic Crosscultural Services (CCS) is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or status.

We are searching for a full-time School Settlement Worker in our SWIS program to provide settlement information and referral services to immigrants and refugees while located in designated schools in Scarborough.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide assessment, information and orientation services to newcomer youth and parents in a school setting
  • Assist newcomers to develop personalized settlement plans and facilitate referrals and access to services in the community
  • Provide case management and supportive counselling to school youth and parents
  • Organize, plan and implement group activities to address the needs of newcomer youth in schools
  • Plan service delivery in cooperation with the host schools, community organizations and SWIS Manager
  • Participate in regular program, team, community and regional meetings
  • Develop and implement community outreach plans to promote CCS programs and services
  • Maintain and update all client information in a customized database
  • Prepare and submit timely statistical and progress reports as required
  • Participate on agency committees and special projects as assigned
  • Participate in agency fundraising activities as deemed appropriate and necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What are we looking for?

  • Social Service Work diploma or Social Work degree from a recognized institution or equivalent training in community work sectors
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English and Bengali.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ work experience in the settlement and/or community work sectors.
  • Knowledge of community resources available in Scarborough as well as Toronto District School Board and Toronto Catholic District School Board systems
  • Ability to work independently in an off-site, multi-location work environment with minimum supervision while ensuring regular communication with SWIS Program Manager and team
  • Demonstrated interview, assessment, analytical, problem-solving skills and ability to build and maintain strong, ongoing partnerships with schools and community agencies
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point). Proficient in Google platforms (slack, forms, surveys, meet etc.), virtual meeting tools, social media
  • Clear, mandatory Vulnerable Sector Screening – Police Reference Check

Location: Scarborough

Compensation: $30.54 to $33.02 based on experience

Hours of work: 35 hours per week, with occasional evenings and weekends as required

From its humble beginnings in a downtown Toronto church in 1954, CCS has grown into one of the largest settlement organizations in Canada.
