What is the opportunity?
Data Services is responsible for ensuring Capital Markets data is complete, accurate, and fit for purpose to meet business and regulatory needs. As an Associate / Senior Data Analyst, you will be responsible for data quality insights. You will act as a key contributor to the execution of critical components of our first-line data strategy and will take ownership of initiatives that span cross-functional teams.
This role requires analytic skills, a strong understanding of business- critical and regulatory data needs, and the ability to identify and deliver innovative solutions to solve high-priority data challenges. You will work closely with regulatory teams, Capital Markets desks, and key business stakeholders. In addition, you will be responsible for hosting regular forums with senior stakeholders, so the ability to lead discussion, focus on key objectives, and ensure productive outcomes is essential. Prior experience in consulting or strategic planning will be considered an asset.
What will you do?
- Conduct data profiling activities to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies within datasets, ultimately determining the root cause of data quality findings. Proficiency in Excel and a fundamental understanding of SQL are essential.
- Analyze data quality findings and translate into strategic insights and recommendations that drive data remediation, informed decision-making, risk mitigation strategies, cross functional data prioritization, and operational enhancements across Capital Markets that align with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Engage key stakeholders to validate root causes and collaborate to design appropriate and scalable solutions that align with RBC’s data strategy and long-term objectives and meet both business and regulatory requirements. Building trusted relationships with stakeholders is critical, achieved by clearly communicating findings, actionable recommendations, and strategic insights.
- Collaborate with business and technology teams to ensure the efficient and timely implementation of designed solutions.
- Facilitate data observation forums with senior leaders to share progress updates, gather their insights on solution designs, and secure approval for observation closures. The candidate must be capable of delivering professional, well-structured presentations that effectively communicate complex scenarios and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Must Have

Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and gain buy-in from multidisciplinary teams, including senior leaders and technical teams.

Proficiency in creating professional PowerPoint decks and visually compelling analytics reports to convey findings and outcomes effectively.

Excellent data analysis skills, including strong experience with Excel and SQL to generate custom queries and analysis.

A strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality frameworks, and enterprise data management.

Post-secondary education in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, Math or a related field or 5+ years of experience in the financial services industry (or equivalent).
Nice to Have:
- Experience with various Capital Market products and trading products lifecycle.
- Experience writing executable Data Quality rules and/or working with a portfolio of production Data Quality controls across multiple source applications and stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of data lifecycles, including focus on data governance and knowledge of Data Quality classification.
- Experience working with Python and leveraging python for the analysis of disparate data sets.
- Experience with data science methodologies, including machine learning and advanced pattern recognition.
- Knowledge of global markets business processes and/or experience working with Market/Reference data.
