Edmonton Airports is seeking a  strategic, resilient, and driven Senior Communications Advisor  to join our Brand Engagement team. This role demands strong critical thinking, exceptional communication skills and the ability to perform under pressure, particularly in situations that require crisis response and on-call support. The Senior Communications Advisor provides expert counsel, develops and executes communications strategies and ensures the delivery of timely, accurate and impactful messaging that protects and enhances YEG’s reputation.

Key Responsibilities

Crisis and Issues Management

  • Serve as a key member of YEG’s crisis communications team, providing on-call support as part of a scheduled rotation.
  • Lead the development and execution of communications strategies during high-pressure situations, ensuring clear, consistent and accurate messaging that protects YEG’s reputation.
  • Anticipate risks, identify challenges and opportunities and recommend proactive communication solutions that safeguard stakeholder confidence.

Strategic Communications & Critical Thinking

  • Plan, develop and deliver comprehensive communication strategies for issues, events and corporate initiatives.
  • Apply strong analytical and strategic thinking to assess situations, frame key messages and develop campaigns that align with YEG’s brand, corporate strategy and values.
  • Manage the production of Edmonton Airports’ Annual Report, ensuring accuracy, alignment with corporate strategy and clear storytelling of performance results.
  • Develop and present data-driven reports on media relations outcomes, communications performance metrics and emerging reputational risks for senior leadership and the executive team.
  • Build multi-platform campaigns that extend beyond single announcements to shape public perception and strengthen brand sentiment.

Media Relations & External Engagement

  • Act as the primary communications liaison for media inquiries, ensuring prompt, professional and consistent responses.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for YEG when required, delivering confident and credible messaging to media, partners and stakeholders.
  • Provide media relations training and coaching for internal spokespeople, preparing leaders and subject matter experts to deliver clear, effective and aligned messages.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media and external partners to increase earned media, showcase YEG’s leadership and strengthen its reputation within the community.
  • Develop public relations materials, including press releases, briefing notes, speeches and key messages.

Internal Communications & Employee Engagement

  • Partner with People & Culture to deliver internal communications campaigns, embedding YEG’s brand and team member value proposition into the workplace experience.
  • Provide communications expertise and support to project managers, internal partners and leadership teams, ensuring messaging aligns with organizational priorities.

Digital & Social Media

  • Incorporate social media and digital platforms into communications strategies to engage diverse audiences and extend the reach of YEG’s messages.
  • Support the development of web content, digital media strategies and campaign analytics to continually refine approaches.

General Accountabilities

  • Ensure communications initiatives deliver measurable outcomes such as increased brand sentiment, enhanced stakeholder engagement and alignment with YEG’s strategic values. Creating and compiling reporting from initiatives on an ongoing basis.
  • Demonstrate a high-performance, innovative, accountable and solutions-focused approach to all work.
  • Report directly to the Manager, Corporate Communications, operating within established expectations and frameworks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Business.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in communications, media relations or public relations.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with demonstrated ability to craft news releases, speeches, briefing notes and campaigns across platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in media relations, event planning, web communications and social media.
  • Excellent project and time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong negotiation, consensus-building and interpersonal skills with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Self-starter with a high level of initiative, adaptability and professional judgment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion and uphold privacy standards.
  • Must be able to secure and maintain appropriate airport security clearance and pass a criminal record check.
  • Competency in both English and French is considered an asset.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience
