Job Summary:
The Design Formation Department seeks a temporary instructor for DSGN 2254 Portfolio in the Spring 2026 semester. This is a 1-section course (1/4 of full-time) open in Spring 2026. The workload includes one hour per week of lecture, one hour of seminar/tutorial, and two hours of design studio, plus other duties related to the College.
Job Description:
In the course, students define their professional profile to develop their visual identity for self-promotion. After identifying the design field they are interested in, they create a portfolio showcasing work that best represents their skills and personal and professional objectives. The course emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary portfolio that demonstrates proficiency in 2D design, 3D visualization, and built environments, reflecting the breadth of skills required in contemporary design practice.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or equivalent)
- Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate major plus five years of full-time employment directly related to program instructional areas
- A credential from a recognized institution in an appropriate discipline and eight years full-time employment in an area directly related to the program instructional areas
- Ten years full-time employment in an area directly related to the program instructional areas
- Portfolio presentation of current and relevant work (professional and teaching) is required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience using Mac OS are essential
Additional Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in web design and digital media
- Strong ability to create visual representations of 2D and 3D designs, including architectural, interior, event, and virtual environments
- Proficiency with industry-standard rendering software and visualization tools
- Knowledge of current design workflows and production pipelines, including file management, version control, and integration of multiple platforms
- Experience with branding and marketing strategies to support student development of personal and professional identity
- Ability to teach portfolio development and professional visual identity, including layout, organization, content selection, and design standards
- Skilled in evaluating and critiquing design work, providing constructive feedback on quality and presentation
- Familiarity with print and digital production processes, including preparing files for printers and online platforms
- Experience with portfolio photography and digital editing
- Strong communication skills for explaining design concepts verbally and in writing
- Ability to plan and manage production schedules to meet deadlines
- Multidisciplinary design experience supported by a recent professional portfolio
- College-level teaching experience (3–5 years preferred) and ability to deliver courses across multiple design disciplines
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain currency and strive for excellence in instructional practices and pedagogy
- Ensure effective use of class time and supervise studio/lab sessions
- Provide student consultation during office hours
- Attend department meetings and contribute to program development
- Maintain collegial working relationships and actively contribute to the department and College
