About the role

Staff Accountant

Mid-Level | Vernon, BC | Hybrid after 3-month probation

About Agile Bookkeeping

At Agile Bookkeeping, we’re not just accountants—we’re trailblazers in AI and automation. As Canada’s fastest-growing AI-powered accounting service, we’re modernizing how bookkeeping gets done. Our in-house AI and automation models make bookkeeping faster, more accurate, and smarter, giving businesses real-time financial insights.

But here’s the real secret: it’s our people and how we work together that makes it all possible. We believe business is personal. That’s why we focus on building long-term relationships, not just transactions. We make things better every day—whether that’s improving workflows, simplifying processes, or helping teammates grow. We know that great ideas can come from anyone, and we lead with context, not control, empowering our team to act with ownership and clarity.

At Agile, you’ll join a dynamic team of CPAs, bookkeepers, and tech enthusiasts who are reshaping the future of accounting with purpose and personality. Whether you’re a numbers pro or a systems thinker, you’ll thrive here.

Position Overview

We’re looking for a driven, detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. You’ll manage a diverse portfolio of clients—from tech startups to construction firms and non-profits—using your accounting expertise to deliver outstanding service while ensuring a seamless client experience.

In this role, you’ll own the weekly accounting cycle, handle client communications with confidence, and work hands-on with process automation to streamline workflows and boost efficiency. If you’re excited about the future of accounting and ready to make an impact with AI-powered tools, we want to hear from you.

Work Location & Hybrid Policy

This role starts fully on-site at our Vernon, BC office. Once you’ve settled into the rhythm of the team—typically after your 3-month probationary period—you’ll have the opportunity to transition to a hybrid schedule. Most of our team works hybrid today, and we’re proud of that. We believe hybrid works best when you’ve had time to build relationships and find your rhythm with the team—that’s why we start on-site.

Relocating to Vernon

We welcome applicants from across Canada. While we’re not able to cover relocation costs, we’re happy to support your move in other ways—connecting you with local housing listings, school resources, neighbourhood guides, and anything else that helps you land well in the Okanagan.

Vernon is a fantastic place to live, with four seasons, lakes, mountains, wineries, and a tight-knit community. We think once you’re here, you’ll love it.

We are a designated employer under the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP). We welcome internationally trained professionals who are seeking a pathway to permanent residency in a vibrant rural community. If that’s you, we encourage you to apply.

What You’ll Do

  • Weekly & Month-End Tasks: Keep client accounts in top shape with weekly reconciliations and smooth month-end close activities. Accuracy and timeliness are key.
  • Payroll & AP: Process payroll and accounts payable reports with care and precision, ensuring everything is correct and on time.
  • Bank & Sales Reconciliations: Handle bank reconciliations and ensure clients’ financial data is accurately synced across platforms.
  • Sales and Payroll Tax Remittances: Assist with tax filings and ensure deadlines are consistently met through well-organized processes.
  • AI-Powered Workflows: Use our automation tools to simplify and accelerate common accounting tasks. (Training provided—just bring curiosity.)
  • Client Communication & Emails: Deliver an exceptional client experience through clear, professional, and friendly communication. You’ll be a reliable point of contact for correspondence and information gathering.
  • Catch-Up Projects: Help new clients get back on track with bookkeeping cleanups—bringing order and clarity to their accounts.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with accountants, bookkeepers, and team leads to deliver a smooth client experience and support operational efficiency.
  • Customer Experience Optimization: Be a voice for the client internally—identify pain points, recommend improvements, and help us continue raising the bar.

Who You Are

  • Experienced: You bring 2+ years of full-cycle accounting or bookkeeping in a full-time professional capacity and are ready to take it to the next level.
  • Qualified: You hold a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Business, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Tech-Savvy: You’re comfortable with QuickBooks, Dext, Google Sheets, and Excel, and you enjoy exploring new tools to improve processes.
  • Proactive Learner: You’re curious, you ask questions, and you’re not afraid to share ideas. You adapt quickly and enjoy staying ahead of the curve.
  • Detail-Oriented: You have a sharp eye for catching and resolving mistakes before they become problems.
  • Critical Thinker: Inefficiency motivates you to find better solutions. You look at problems from every angle and aren’t content with the status quo.
  • People-Oriented Communicator: You enjoy working with clients and colleagues alike. Whether it’s over email or a Zoom call, you’re clear, kind, and professional.
  • Team Player: You like contributing to a shared goal and supporting the success of the whole team, not just your own to-do list.

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • A desire to pursue (or are currently working toward) a CPA or other accounting designation
  • Previous experience in customer service, public practice, or client-facing roles
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, including workflow automation or scripting
