About the role
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
**Leadership and Supervision:**Manage HR Generalists:
- Oversee and mentor the HR Generalists, providing guidance and support for their daily HR activities
- Monitor the performance of HR Generalists, ensuring they meet key performance indicators and departmental objectives
- Conduct regular performance reviews with HR Generalists, offering feedback and identifying areas for professional development.
- Lead the HR team in driving HR initiatives that align with the plant’s goals and overall business strategy.
- Act as the senior HR point of contact for HR-related issues within the plant and collaborate with leadership teams to improve workforce performance.
Talent Acquisition and Recruitment:
- Oversee and manage the recruitment process for all plant positions, ensuring an efficient hiring cycle.
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies for high-demand positions in the plant, including production, maintenance, and warehouse roles.
- Work closely with HR Generalists to ensure the candidate experience is smooth and consistent with company standards.
- Participate in interviewing candidates for management and critical roles, ensuring cultural and technical fit for the plant environment.
Employee Relations and Engagement:
- Address complex employee relations issues and provide guidance on conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance procedures.
- Promote a positive and inclusive work culture by collaborating with leadership to implement employee engagement initiatives.
- Ensure effective communication between management and employees, acting as a liaison to facilitate open dialogue and address concerns.
- Conduct exit interviews and document feedback to identify trends or issues.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure that all human resource practices comply with federal, state/provincial, and local employment laws and regulations, including wage and hour laws, human rights legislation, leave policies, and workplace safety requirements applicable to the plant’s location. (US/Canada)
- Collaborate with site leadership and safety teams to ensure full compliance with workplace health and safety regulations, and to verify that all employees obtain the required training and certifications.
- Work with HR Generalists and Safety Managers to ensure ongoing compliance with safety and health regulations and that employees receive proper safety training and certifications.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Oversee the administration of compensation, benefits, and payroll processes for plant employees.
- Partner with Corporate Benefits Specialist and the HR Generalists to handle benefits enrollment, claims, and employee inquiries regarding compensation and benefits packages.
HR Strategy and Policy Implementation:
- Develop and implement HR policies and procedures specific to the plant’s operational needs, ensuring consistency and fairness.
- Advise plant leadership on HR best practices and legal updates that could impact workforce management.
- Lead HR initiatives aimed at improving employee retention, performance, and overall workplace culture.
- Conduct regular audits of HR processes and practices, ensuring that HR activities are aligned with organizational goals and compliant with regulatory requirements.

- General office environment with majority of time using computer

- Comply with workplace uniform requirements and safety gear, when on the plant floor v. office.
Performance Expectations:
- Act as a trusted partner to the General Manager and site leadership, advising on all aspects of people management and leadership.
- Collaborate with leadership on all employee relations matters. Advises leaders on the application and interpretation of policies, procedures, laws, standards, compensation requirements, and legal compliance. Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
- Address employee concerns and conduct investigations as necessary to resolve issues.
- Foster an inclusive culture and enhance employee engagement by designing and executing initiatives focused on engagement, performance, and development.
- Maintain a visible presence on the plant floor by conducting periodic walk-throughs across all shifts during the workday to support employee engagement and address workforce concerns.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, adapt to change readily, and exhibit a strong curiosity in learning new roles and responsibilities.
- Provide monthly HR metrics: turnover, absenteeism, hiring time, training hours.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive workplace reflective of company values.
Skills and Work Experience Requirements:
- Proven leadership ability to manage a team of HR professionals, specifically HR Generalists.
- In-depth knowledge of labor laws, HR best practices, and workplace safety regulations in a manufacturing environment (OSHA, FMLA, ADA).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to use HR data to drive decision-making
- Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office suite and knowledge of HRIS system (UltiPro)
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle sensitive employee issues.
- 7 years of experience in Human Resources, preferably in a food manufacturing environment.
- Extensive compliance experience, ensuring adherence to all federal, state, and local laws pertaining to employment matters and Human Resources, including conducting thorough investigations to effectively resolve issues.
- Experience working within the applicable employment laws and regulations of the country in which the plant operates, multi-jurisdictional experience is a plus.
- Strong change management and communication skills, both written and verbal communication skills
Education:
- A bachelor’s degree in human resource management, or a related field

A reasonable estimate of the current base salary range at the time of posting is below. The base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits. The actual base salary within the specified range is based on several factors, including but not limited to applicant's skills, prior relevant experience, education, certifications, job responsibilities, market considerations and, if applicable, the location of the position.
This role is eligible for either a discretionary annual bonus (based on company, business unit and individual performance) and/or commission-based incentives.
Salary Range$115K- $130K CAD
