As a Senior Operations Engineer, you will provide expertise to support Wastewater Treatment (WWT) operations, plant optimization, and risk mitigation strategies, while developing and reporting plant performance measures and provide operational input to capital projects during planning, design, procurement and commissioning phases. Primary duties include:
- Monitor and report treatment processes and support meeting regulatory compliance.
- Identify projects to improve WWT operations in the areas of performance measurement, risk assessment, process upsets, benchmarking, process modeling, analysis of existing operational practices, research of best practices, and strategic business planning.
- Design, implement, and evaluate plant operational improvements using modeling, mass balances, laboratory tests, bench scale tests, etc.
- Provide technical expertise and solutions to WWT quality issues, emerging regulations and technology.
- Provide process input and review of capital projects during planning, design, procurement, commissioning and operator training phases.
- Collaborate and communicate with operations staff, Water Quality and Regulatory Assurance, Utilities Delivery, Utilities Project Development, Environmental Analysis, and others, as required.
Qualifications
- A degree in a related Engineering field and at least 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience in the design, operation, and/or commissioning of wastewater treatment systems, obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. - Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) and the use of a personal vehicle for business purposes (with no more than six demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending) is required.
- Knowledge of Provincial and Federal wastewater treatment regulatory framework, along with strong technical knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and the ability to manage complex, highly technical issues to ensure wastewater processes comply with regulatory requirements, is essential.
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the design, modeling, operation, commissioning and optimization of biological wastewater treatment processes.
- A postgraduate degree is considered an asset.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills paired with an advanced level of computer and organizational skills.
Working Conditions: This position has some exposure to hazardous and annoying conditions during site visits.

Workstyle
- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. Such arrangements are based on the operational requirements of the position and employee suitability and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Level P4E $135,800 - 169,700 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
