**IT Project Manager (12 Month Contract)
Location: Edmonton, AB / Hybrid
Staffing Placement Opportunity** Background We are seeking an experienced IT Project Manager to lead an enterprise ERP upgrade initiative with a strong focus on financial systems. The successful candidate will bring hands-on experience managing ERP upgrades and will work closely with Finance, IT, and external vendors to guide the organization through the full upgrade lifecycle — from planning and design through go-live and stabilization.
This role requires a strong project leader who can translate technical activities into business impacts, proactively manage risks, and ensure Finance stakeholders are supported and prepared throughout the upgrade process.
Role Description The Project Manager is responsible for managing the end-to-end project management lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, governance, monitoring and control, and close-out. The role is accountable for the successful delivery of the solution and smooth transition into operations.
Responsibilities Project Leadership & Delivery
- Lead and facilitate the full project lifecycle, ensuring proper transition into operational support.
- Manage planning and design sessions, testing, training, product evaluation, change control, communication strategies, and solution adoption activities.
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, dependencies, and risk registers.
- Coordinate internal IT teams, Finance stakeholders, system integrators, and vendors.
ERP Upgrade Leadership
- Lead end-to-end delivery of the ERP upgrade project, including planning, execution, testing, cutover, and post-go-live support.
- Oversee integration, data migration, configuration, and validation activities.
Finance & Business Partnership
- Act as the primary liaison between IT and Finance throughout the upgrade initiative.
- Guide Finance teams through key phases including requirements validation, process changes, testing, data migration, and user readiness.
- Ensure financial modules align with business requirements, regulatory standards, and internal controls.
- Facilitate workshops and decision-making sessions to address process, data, and configuration impacts.
Governance & Delivery Management
- Establish and maintain project governance structures, status reporting, and executive communications.
- Manage scope, change requests, and issue resolution to ensure delivery objectives are achieved.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and financial reporting standards.
- Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) planning and execution in collaboration with Finance and business teams.
Change, Risk & Quality Management
- Identify and mitigate risks related to data integrity, financial close processes, reporting accuracy, and business continuity.
- Oversee cutover planning, go-live readiness, and stabilization activities.
- Ensure proper documentation, training materials, and knowledge transfer are completed.
Qualifications
- Proven experience applying Project Management methodologies.
- Minimum 5 years of IT Project Management experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading ERP upgrades (strongly preferred).
- Strong experience partnering with Finance teams on financial systems or ERP transformation initiatives.
- Solid understanding of financial business processes and system interdependencies.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive Information Technology experience with broad IT knowledge.
- Strong executive reporting and stakeholder communication skills, including engagement with senior leadership and C-suite.
- Public sector experience is considered an asset.
- PMP or related project management certification preferred.
- ITIL v3 or v4 certification considered an asset.
