About the role

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CHILDCARE ASSISTANT ON-CALL POSITIONS FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRIT FOR THE BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CHILDCARE PROGRAMS AT JOHN STUBBS, POIRIER, RUTH KING, SANGSTER AND SAVORY ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.

The Shifts Are Approximately Before School: 7:30 am to 8:50 am

After School 2:40 pm to 5:30 pm

Knowledge And Experience

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent
  • Holder of Responsible Adult in Child Care Setting Certificate or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of related experience providing care to children
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic bookkeeping
  • Holds a valid First Aid Certificate (as determined by the employer) or is willing to obtain valid certification
  • Holds a valid Food Safe Certificate or is willing to obtain valid certification
  • Physical ability to respond to student needs

Responsibilities

  • Provides care, guidance and engaging activities to children in the program
  • Dispenses first aid, if needed
  • Supervises snack time
  • Ensures that VIHA Child Care Facility guidelines are followed and license requirements are always met
  • Liaises, when needed, with VIHA, the school administration and the District Principal – Early Learning & Childcare (or their designate)
  • Responds to parent/caregiver, family and community requests for information and resources
  • Ensures all cleaning protocols and health orders are being followed
  • Performs other related duties as time permits and/or assigned as required
  • Participates in training and professional learning as required

The starting hourly rate for this on-call position is $29.89 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
