Job Summary As a Civil Estimator , you will own the estimating process for civil infrastructure, utilities, and earthworks bids --from initial quantity takeoffs through tender submission and post-award handoff.

Using industry-standard tools such as B2W Estimate (Bid2Win/HeavyBid) and Bluebeam Revu , you will prepare accurate and compliant estimates, assess project risks, and collaborate with operations and commercial teams to optimize project cost, constructability, and competitiveness.

You will contribute to all phases of the estimating lifecycle including quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, constructability review, subcontractor coordination, and bid strategy development .

This role is well suited to a methodical problem-solver who enjoys working collaboratively, mentoring others, and helping grow a strong project pipeline across Calgary and Western Canada .

As our project portfolio continues to expand, we are seeking a Civil Estimator with 3-5 years of experience to join our estimating team.

Reporting Structure This position reports directly to the Chief Estimator .

Position Overview

The Civil Estimator is responsible for developing detailed cost estimates and supporting bid strategy for civil infrastructure projects, including:

• Earthworks and excavation
• Underground utility installations
• Road construction and granular structures
• Asphalt paving
• Concrete works and flatwork

Working closely with the Chief Estimator, project managers, and field personnel , this role participates in all phases of the estimating process including quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, subcontractor coordination, constructability reviews, and estimate development .

This position provides an opportunity to gain deeper exposure to municipal and infrastructure construction projects while developing toward Senior Estimator responsibilities as BAAC continues to expand its civil infrastructure portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Estimate Development

• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analysis for civil infrastructure projects including:Earthworks and excavation
• Deep underground utilities (water, sanitary, and storm)
• Road construction and granular structures
• Asphalt paving
• Concrete flatwork (curbs, sidewalks, slabs)
• Shallow utilities
• Review project drawings and specifications to identify constructability considerations, productivity assumptions, and cost drivers.
• Participate in developing construction methodologies, equipment selection, and sequencing strategies during the estimating process.

Bid Preparation & Strategy

• Assist with preparation of competitive bid submissions and estimate summaries.
• Participate in internal estimate review meetings and bid strategy discussions, including risk evaluation and competitive positioning.
• Compile estimate documentation, scope breakdowns, and pricing summaries for tender submissions.

Subcontractor & Supplier Coordination

• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Ensure subcontract scopes align with project requirements and tender documentation.
• Maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers in the civil construction market.

Estimating Systems & Documentation

• Utilize industry-standard estimating and takeoff tools including:B2W Estimate
• Bluebeam Revu
• Smartsheet
• Maintain organized estimate documentation and supporting backup for internal review.
• Assist in maintaining historical cost databases and productivity benchmarks.

Collaboration with Operations

• Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and field personnel to validate productivity assumptions, construction methodologies, and equipment requirements.
• Participate in estimate review meetings and project turnover discussions to ensure alignment between estimating and operations teams.

Qualifications Required Experience

• 3-5 years of estimating experience in civil construction.
• Experience estimating civil infrastructure projects, including:Earthworks
• Underground utilities
• Road construction
• Asphalt paving
• Concrete works.

Education

Diploma Or Degree In One Of The Following

• Civil Engineering Technology
• Construction Management
• Civil Engineering
• Equivalent industry experience

Technical Skills

• Strong ability to interpret civil construction drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
• Experience using digital takeoff and estimating software such as:B2W Estimate
• Bluebeam Revu
• Microsoft Excel
• Working knowledge of civil construction equipment productivity, installation methods, and construction sequencing.
