Systems Testing / QA Specialist – Senior
Location: Hybrid – 1 day/week onsite (525 University Avenue, Toronto, ON) Contract: August 17, 2026 – August 16, 2027 (250 business days) Schedule: Monday to Friday Public Sector Experience: Preferred Incorp Rate: $70-$73.69
About the Role
Our client is looking for a Senior Systems Testing / QA Specialist to support the Direct Correspondence Project, which is focused on expanding digital communication channels for cancer screening programs. This initiative supports Ontario's Digital First for Health Strategy by improving how healthcare information is delivered to Ontarians. The successful candidate will lead performance testing initiatives, build scalable test automation frameworks, and work closely with development and DevOps teams to ensure applications are reliable, secure, and perform well under production workloads.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain performance testing frameworks using JMeter. Create and execute load, stress, endurance, and failover tests that simulate real production environments. Analyze performance results and identify bottlenecks, memory leaks, thread contention, and other application issues. Work with developers and DevOps teams to recommend application and infrastructure improvements. Integrate performance testing into CI/CD pipelines for continuous testing. Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts for functional, integration, regression, performance, and user acceptance testing. Perform backend validation, including SQL queries and ETL testing, to ensure data accuracy. Troubleshoot and modify existing automation scripts where documentation may be limited. Support testing across both GUI and non-GUI applications. Mentor junior QA team members and promote QA best practices. Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with cross-functional project teams throughout the SDLC.
Must-Have Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience. 5–7+ years of experience in software testing with a strong focus on QA automation and performance testing. 3+ years in a Senior or Lead QA role.
Expert experience with JMeter, including
Custom plugins BeanShell/Groovy scripting Distributed load testing Experience with APM tools such as Grafana, Dynatrace, New Relic, or similar.
Strong understanding of
AWS and/or Azure cloud environments Microservices architecture Load balancers Redis and Memcached Advanced SQL and NoSQL skills, including performance analysis and query optimization. Experience reading and debugging backend code (Java, Python, Go, .NET, or similar). Experience designing, building, and maintaining UI, API, and web service automation frameworks. Strong knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies. Ability to work independently and troubleshoot existing code and automation frameworks.
Nice to Have
Previous experience working in the Ontario Public Sector or another public sector environment. Experience in healthcare or other highly regulated industries. Experience with ETL testing and data validation.
