About the role

About the role

Hollis+Morris is looking for a hands-on Production Associate to assist Trade shows, Custom Projects and Shop operations. You'll work closely with our Production Manager and Design Director, owning the physical execution of new products and custom work from start to finish, taking design direction from the Design Director and coordinating day-to-day production needs with the Production Manager. This is a role for someone who takes a project and runs with it. You'll source materials, follow up with suppliers, build and refine prototypes, troubleshoot problems as they come up, and see projects through to completion without needing to be managed step by step. You'll also share ownership of custom product work alongside our Production Manager, and act as a trusted backup on the production floor when needed.

What you'll do

Production and product development, prototyping & custom work

Take approved designs and specifications and independently drive them through prototyping to production-ready

  • Source, order, and follow up on materials and components with suppliers, owning delivery timelines end to end
  • Share responsibility for custom product requests with the Production Manager, from initial specs through fabrication
  • Build and refine prototypes and pre-production pieces, identifying risks and solving problems along the way
  • Coordinate with external partners and specialty suppliers on finishing and non-standard components
  • Produce shop drawings, build notes, and assembly guidance to support clean handoffs to production Production support & cross-training
  • Step in to support production floor operations and staff when the Production Manager is away
  • Troubleshoot early-run production issues on new products, proposing fixes while protecting design intent
  • Help maintain Standard Operation Procedures and documentation standards as new products move into full-scale production Trade shows & brand activations
  • Project Management skills and mindset
  • Own trade show logistics: ensuring products, samples, and materials are ordered, built, assembled, and crated on schedule
  • Coordinate timelines with outsourced partners and internal teams to avoid last-minute issues
  • Support proactive planning against the annual show calendar General & collaboration
  • Coordinate scheduling and logistics with internal teams and external vendors as needed
  • Participate in regular check-ins on development progress, risks, and next steps
  • Support sales-driven product requests as needed

What you bring

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in a shop, fabrication, or manufacturing environment, with demonstrated ability to take a project from start to finish independently
  • Comfortable calling suppliers, following up, and owning outcomes, not just executing assigned tasks
  • Strong hands-on fabrication skills in woodworking and/or metalworking
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and specifications
  • Some familiarity with 3D modelling software (Rhino, Solidworks, SketchUp) is helpful but not the main requirement
  • Comfortable working with some independence while also collaborating closely with design and production leadership
  • A design-related background is welcome but not required. What matters most is proven ownership and follow-through in a hands-on environment

You'll thrive here if you are

  • Self-directed and comfortable taking ownership without close supervision
  • A clear, proactive communicator, especially with suppliers and partners
  • Resourceful under pressure, particularly around non-standard problems
  • Organized enough to manage multiple active projects at once
  • Professionally mature with sound judgment

Work environment

This role is primarily shop and manufacturing-based. Physical demands include standing, lifting up to 25 kg, and working in variable conditions.

Benefits

Casual dress, on-site parking, paid time off, wellness program

Work Location: In person
