Job Description Metroland is excited to be participating in Canada’s Local Journalism Initiative which aims to which aims to promote local journalism in underserved communities in Canada. northbaynipissing.com and the Almaguin News are seeking an energetic, keen reporter with a degree in journalism or equivalent for a unique and exceptional opportunity. During this temporary full-time contract, you will be expected to produce a minimum of 5-7 stories weekly which will appear on muskokaregion.com. Your stories will be available for upload to other media outlets and the many Metroland publication websites. Deadline to apply is July 19, 2026 The contract ends March 31, 2027 Annual Salary: $44,059.01 - $ 56,829.84 While you work virtually, you must be available to complete interviews and take photographs in the area. Your salary will be paid by Metroland, with a portion coming through funding from the Government of Canada. The successful candidate will focus on civic journalism in the Huntsville and Lake of Bays areas. This may include covering Huntsville, Lake of Bays and Muskoka District councils, school boards, law enforcement, courts, fire departments, Crown corporations, government agencies, federal Parliament or provincial legislatures. Qualifications A journalism degree, diploma or equivalent experience is preferred. Keen to work independently in a virtual newsroom Ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline driven and demanding environment Curious, team-oriented individual that can build professional relationships with team members and sources Strong interviewing, social media and online journalism skills matched with excellent writing and communication skills Proven news judgment and a strong work ethic Effective organizational skills, ability to manage time and prioritize tasks appropriately Photography skills Must have access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license We would like to thank all applicants for their interest in this program; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
