Western University is expanding its presence in downtown Toronto—and we are seeking an exceptional leader to grow this high-impact institutional platform for engagement, thought leadership, partnership, and innovation. This is a rare opportunity to establish and grow a high-impact institutional presence in Canada’s largest city, bringing together academic leaders, industry, policymakers, alumni, and community partners to address the complex issues shaping our future.
About Western University in Toronto Western University’s Toronto presence serves as a dynamic hub for thought leadership, professional education, and community engagement. About the Role As the Director, Toronto Western Programs & Partnerships, you will lead the continued growth and strategic evolution of Western's Toronto presence as a platform for engagement, partnership, and innovation. Working closely with the President's Office and leaders across the university, you will help shape a dynamic portfolio of programs, events, and strategic partnerships that connect Western's academic strengths with opportunities across business, government, healthcare, the not-for-profit sector, and the broader community.
You will build strong relationships with Western's faculties, schools, and research centres while serving as a connector between institutional priorities and external opportunities. You will cultivate partnerships with industry leaders, policymakers, alumni, community organizations, and other collaborators to activate programming that advances Western's reputation, strengthens relationships, and creates meaningful impact. You will also provide leadership for Toronto-based operations, guiding the Guest Experience Manager and operations team to ensure a consistently exceptional experience for visitors, partners, and program participants.
In this role, you will oversee a growing portfolio of initiatives that bring Western's expertise and community together through executive education, public dialogue, partnership development, and collaborative programming. You will identify opportunities for sponsorships, strategic collaborations, and new programming while monitoring performance and advising senior leadership on future growth. Success will be measured through the strength of partnerships developed, the quality and impact of programming, and the continued evolution of Western's Toronto presence as a gateway for engagement.
What You’ll Bring You have a university degree in business, public administration, communications, or a related field; a graduate degree is considered an asset. You bring 8–10 years of progressive leadership experience in strategic partnerships, external engagement, business development, or institutional initiatives, with demonstrated success leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects. You are an accomplished relationship builder who is comfortable engaging senior executives, academic leaders, government officials, donors, and community partners. You have experience working within complex organizations, exercising influence without direct authority, and navigating competing priorities is essential. Familiarity with Toronto's corporate, public, academic, or innovation sectors—and an established professional network—is highly desirable.
You are a strategic thinker with strong execution capability and a relationship-builder who brings credibility and influence. You are an entrepreneurial leader who thrives in evolving environments and a skilled communicator who can facilitate high-impact conversations across a range of audiences.
Why This Role is Exciting This is a unique opportunity to help build and shape Western’s presence in Toronto from the ground up while working closely with senior university leadership and the President’s Office.
