Position Overview

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager and collaborating closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, and field teams, the Health & Safety Coordinator plays a vital role in executing, maintaining, and improving the company’s Health & Safety Program. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance, developing and delivering training, conducting inspections and audits, supporting incident investigations, and promoting a proactive safety culture across projects.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Program Execution

  • Act as a resource for project teams, providing guidance and resolution for health and safety challenges

  • Conduct field-level safety inspections, develop clear action plans, and track corrective actions to completion

  • Support the development, review, and updating of Safe Work Procedures (SWP), Codes of Practice (COP), Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), and Toolbox Talks

  • Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and OH&S regulations as well as company and client policies, practices and procedures

  • Monitor and advise on legislative and technical changes that impact operations

  • Develop and deliver safety training, orientations, and presentations tailored to different audiences (yard, project sites, corporate settings)

  • Support the Return-to-Work (RTW) and injury management program and process

  • Lead incident investigations, ensuring thorough evidence gathering, cause analysis, and corrective action implementation

  • Develop and maintain emergency preparedness plans, fall protection plans, and site-specific safety plans.

  • Support the Certificate of Recognition (COR) audit readiness, through assessments and pre-audit reviews

  • Co-Chair or participation in Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee (JOHSC) meetings, documenting discussions and follow-up actions.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or Construction Safety Officer (CSO) certification required.

  • Occupational Health & Safety Diploma (preferred).

  • 5+ years of experience in health, safety, and environmental (H&S) roles, preferably in heavy construction, industrial, or marine environments.

  • Experience with ISO 45001, COR audits, industrial hygiene, claims management, and WorkSafe submissions is an asset

Required Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

  • Regulatory Knowledge – Strong understanding of WorkSafeBC, OH&S, and industry regulations; ability to research and interpret requirements

  • Microsoft Office & Documentation – Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and safety software to create reports, procedures, and training materials.

  • Confined Space – Entry & Monitor Certification, Atmospheric Testing & Rescue Planning

  • Fall Protection – End User Certification, Fall Protections Plans & Rescue Planning

  • First Aid & Emergency Response – Advanced First Aid Certification, first aid assessments & documentation, inventory management, and emergency preparedness skills.

  • Professionalism & Communication – Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage teams, conduct meetings, and foster a culture of safety. Ensuring that all communications and interactions reflect company values.

  • Personal Organization – Ability to balance and prioritize workload, strong time-management
