Job Description

We are currently recruiting a Senior Analyst, Private Funds Operations, reporting to the Manager, Private Funds Operations, to provide transactional and accounting support for private equity investments. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about problem solving, solutions oriented and comfortable dealing with heavy volume, tight deadlines and complex transactions. You must be a self-starter who works well under pressure. You must have strong interpersonal and business relationship skills and enjoy working across Core Services and the Investment Departments.

Team Summary

Private Funds Operations supports the Funds & Secondaries and Private Equity Asia Investments and plays a critical role in Asset onboarding, funding, and maintenance of the investment. Key functions include:

  • Transaction processing and settlement
  • Capturing and managing key data elements
  • Maintenance of all investment accounting record-keeping activities until asset disposition

Accountabilities

Trade Life Cycle Expertise

  • Review trade tickets and accounting entries for accuracy; ensure figures agree with transacted amounts and support provided from General Partners
  • Review completeness of supporting documentation and appropriate authorizations to facilitate new deal closings
  • Act as the reviewer for specific period processes and procedures (daily, monthly and quarterly)
  • Identify issues and assist the Manager in determining corrective actions; promptly escalate irregular activities or issues
  • Partner with colleagues from the Investment Departments, Structuring and Business Management, Tax and Treasury to successfully close and fund transactions by proactively identifying and resolving operational issues
  • Liaise with investment partners, industry peers, audit and other service providers
  • Preparing quarterly valuation and ensuring valuation adjustments are accurately recorded

Investment Accounting & Reporting

  • Ensure timely completion and accuracy of various reports and reconciliations relating to portfolio holdings, P&L and daily performance returns
  • Prepare or review quarterly financial reports and schedules, note disclosures and management reports while ensuring their accuracy and completeness

Process Improvement

  • Update process documentation for key business processes

  • Through innovation, develop and enhance internal controls and monitoring procedures related to periodic processes

  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement by identifying inefficiencies in workflows and recommending automated or streamlined solutions.

  • Lead root cause analyses to identify operational risks or recurring issues and drive the implementation of effective preventive controls.

  • Lead or assist in various special projects and initiatives as CPPIB works towards our CPPIB 2025 vision.

  • Prioritize workload so that all deadlines are met

  • Working on special projects and other duties as assigned

  • Display leadership and provide guidance to Analysts

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in Finance, Commerce or other related discipline

  • Professional designations such as a CPA, CFA, CBV are considered an asset

  • 3-5 years of related work experience (e.g. finance, consulting, private equity, accounting firm, fund accounting, etc.)

  • Strong analytical, financial and management accounting skills will be necessary to perform this role

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Expert in time management

  • Excellent attention to detail and consistently high levels of accuracy

  • Exemplification of our Guiding Principles of partnership, integrity and high performance

  • Advanced Excel skills and comfortable with learning new systems

  • A continuous learning mindset with a desire to learn about CPPIB’s business and recommend innovative solutions to business problems

  • Willingness to actively contribute to a positive and highly effective team culture
