IT Systems Administrator

Brock University Students' Union (BUSU) Location: Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Anticipated Start: September 14, 2026 Compensation: 75,000 – 90,000 annually Reports To: Director of Finance & Operations (or designate) Position Summary The Brock University Students' Union (BUSU) is seeking an innovative, service-oriented, and technically skilled IT Systems Administrator to oversee and support the organization's technology infrastructure. This role is responsible for the administration, security, maintenance, and strategic development of BUSU's information systems, including servers, cloud platforms, network infrastructure, digital signage, point-of-sale systems, cybersecurity initiatives, and emerging artificial intelligence technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Systems & Network Administration Core Infrastructure: Administer M365, cloud services; manage user accounts, permissions, and security groups. Maintenance & Backups: Oversee system health, patch management, software updates, enterprise storage, and asset lifecycle tracking. Network & Security: Maintain routers, firewalls, and wireless access points; monitor network traffic and troubleshoot connectivity issues. Disaster Recovery: Implement, test, and maintain backup systems and emergency business continuity plans. 2. End-User & Business Systems Support Technical Support: Resolve advanced tier-2/3 hardware, software, and network incidents tracked via the IT ticketing system. Hardware Provisioning: Configure, deploy, and maintain laptops, printers, and peripheral equipment. POS Platforms: Support retail operations and payment integrations on Square and Armagh POS software. Documentation & Training: Develop clear end-user guides, best-practice workflows, and technical training materials. 3. Cybersecurity, AI & Innovation Security & Compliance: Enforce endpoint protection, access controls, and firewall policies; conduct routine security audits. AI & Automation: Evaluate and govern emerging AI tools to automate workflows, optimize reporting, and improve efficiency. IT Policies: Help draft organizational security policies, data governance guidelines, and modern tech standards. 4. Digital Media, Events & Strategic Projects Digital Signage & Events: Manage campus-wide digital display systems and deliver AV/tech support for BUSU events, elections, and meetings. Strategic Modernization: Assist with IT budgeting, vendor coordination, and infrastructure expansion projects. Operations Support: Provide after-hours support for critical system outages as needed.

Qualifications

Education Post-secondary diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field.

Experience

Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience in systems administration, network administration, or enterprise IT support. Experience supporting student services, non-profit, or higher education environments is considered a strong asset.
