The Senior Compositor will work closely with VFX Supervisors, Compositing Supervisors, CG teams, and production staff to create polished final shots that meet both the creative and technical requirements of each project. You will be expected to take ownership of challenging work, communicate clearly, and help maintain a high standard across the compositing team.

Responsibilities

Composite complex visual effects shots from initial setup through final delivery. Integrate CG elements, digital matte paintings, live-action plates, and additional photography into seamless final images. Perform advanced keying, rotoscoping, tracking, paint, cleanup, projection, and color-matching work. Create realistic atmospheric effects, lens effects, reflections, shadows, depth, and interactive lighting. Match grain, focus, motion blur, lens distortion, and other photographic characteristics of the source material. Work with multipass renders and AOVs to refine CG integration. Interpret creative direction from supervisors and clients and respond effectively to notes. Troubleshoot complex creative and technical issues within Nuke. Maintain organized, efficient, and production-ready scripts. Work within established studio workflows, naming conventions, and delivery requirements. Provide accurate estimates and communicate progress, risks, or blockers to production. Review work with supervisors and present shots clearly during dailies. Support and mentor junior and mid-level compositors when appropriate. Collaborate with CG, FX, lighting, tracking, roto, paint, and production teams to resolve shot-specific issues. Help identify workflow improvements that increase quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

Several years of professional compositing experience in feature film, episodic, or high-end commercial visual effects. Advanced proficiency in Nuke. Strong understanding of color, lighting, composition, photography, perspective, and image integration. Demonstrated ability to complete complex photoreal visual effects shots. Strong knowledge of keying, tracking, rotoscoping, paint, projections, and multipass compositing. Experience working with CG renders, AOVs, deep data, and color-managed pipelines. Excellent attention to detail and strong creative problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under production deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to take direction, incorporate feedback, and work collaboratively. Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of assigned shots.

Preferred Experience

Experience working on feature films or premium episodic productions. Familiarity with ACES and modern color-management workflows. Experience with deep compositing. Experience creating complex environment extensions, invisible effects, digital doubles, or large-scale CG integrations. Experience mentoring less-experienced artists. Familiarity with ShotGrid or a similar production-tracking platform. Experience working with distributed or remote VFX teams.
