Job Description General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada currently has a new position for a fulltime Operations Support role to provide technical support and troubleshooting for the DND Satellite Communications Operations Centre (SOC). This opportunity offers training, full time hours(shifts) and benefits. This is ideal for someone with a passion for troubleshooting, networking and Satellite communications. This position is located in downtown Ottawa.
Typical Duties
- Logging & processing of technical events and/or generation of incident reports
- Assist clients with minor trouble shooting and modem configurations
- Processing Satellite Access Requests and validating & implementing Satellite Access Authorizations
- Answering SOC Phone, E-Mail, and chat messages
- Coordinate satellite access and de-access activities with DND Operational units
- Providing On-the-job training for new SOC Operators
- Performing shift hand-over briefings
- Collecting and processing post-mission information
- Producing weekly/monthly reports
- Remote Monitor and Control of Satellite Anchor Stations
Qualifications
- Requires a two or three year College diploma as a Technologist and/or equivalent experience, specializing in electronics, telecommunications
- Ability to communicate effectively with customer at a variety of authoritative levels
- Ability to troubleshoot, using initiative and judgement, applying knowledge gained from previous experience
- Possesses the flexibility and the ability for quick and knowledgeable response to technical and customer service related issues
- Good appreciation of the customer's facility, methods of operation and sensitivities
- Knowledge and skill in using computer desktop applications (i.e. Microsoft Office tools)
Assets but not required:
- Previous Canadian Forces experience or working in a military environment
- Experience with commercial and/or military SATCOM networks
- Experience with large terrestrial SATCOM terminals
It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.
