About the role
Practice Details:
Cariboo Memorial Hospital is currently expanding its Internal Medicine (IM) team and enhancing services to better meet the needs of the community. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collegial and well-supported environment, alongside a dedicated surgical team, a busy emergency department with approximately 25,000 visits annually, and a strong network of full-service family physicians.
We are seeking a General Internist who is eager to collaborate in shaping our evolving IM program in Williams Lake. The ideal candidate will be confident in managing inpatient care, providing consults in the emergency department, and overseeing our 4 bed High Acuity Unit (HAU). While we do not have an ICU, our HAU provides a high level of care and is a critical component of our hospital’s acute services.
Subspecialty interests such as cardiology, respirology, and rheumatology are welcomed, with opportunities for procedures including stress testing and ECG interpretation. Clinic hours typically run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and on-call duties are shared on a 1:4 rotation, covering the HAU and ER with after-hours responsibilities during full call shifts. Physicians also have an option to access to the Rapid Access clinic.
Teaching opportunities are available for those interested in medical education, and while research is not a requirement, the site is open to supporting research initiatives. Hospital-based work does not incur overhead; however, clinic-based practice outside of the hospital is at the physician’s expense, including EMR and MOA responsibilities.
This position offers the chance to gain valuable experience managing patients with complex comorbidities, with minimal competition for procedures and a high degree of autonomy. We also welcome inquiries regarding spousal support and are committed to helping physicians and their families thrive in Williams Lake.
*Locum opportunities are available throughout the recruitment process.*
For those interested, Leadership Development Opportunities are available with Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program. The NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program is a comprehensive leadership development program designed specifically for physicians to address the practical leadership knowledge, behaviours and skills that high potential, emerging medical leaders require to step into leadership roles early in their careers.
