Job Description:
The Eating Disorder Clinician will be responsible to provide in-depth psychosocial assessments, to include the identification of child, adolescent and family strengths, and assess and incorporate problem-solving abilities, dynamics, interactions, attitudes, feelings and cultural issues in relation to the child and adolescent with an eating disorder.
The Eating Disorder Clinician will work collaboratively with the team in the initial multidisciplinary assessment to develop and implement a plan of intervention, which incorporates a range of facets including education, coping and compliance. This will be achieved through a variety of modalities including individual therapy, family therapy, group work, consultation, case management, community outreach and advocacy. The Eating Disorder Clinician will identify and make referrals to appropriate supports and resources as required. The Eating Disorder Clinician delivers care utilizing Family Based Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy – Eating Disorder.
The Eating Disorder Clinician will function as an integral member of the multidisciplinary health care team in the provision of patient care as well as provides service navigation for the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Eating Disorder Program servicing patients 25 and under with the potential of travel between multiple sites.
The Eating Disorder Clinician must demonstrate ability to provide strong written and oral communication skills and accurate and timely documentation which meets both professional college and organizational standards as well as proficiency in multiple computer applications, and must have strong interpersonal skills including a demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative team setting.
Sound knowledge of community resources and supports with a focus on child and youth, and transitional young adults eating disorders. Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize according to need and risk.
Education:
- Masters of Social work degree or Masters of Clinical Counselling from an accredited School
- Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or appropriate governing College
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of progressive clinical experience in a health care setting.
- Minimum of three years clinical experience providing brief clinical counselling to individuals, families, and groups.
- Strong knowledge of various individual, family and group interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & Family Based Therapy for eating disorders.
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience providing individual, family and group therapy to children and teens with eating disorders, within a family context
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in an inpatient, outpatient or day treatment pediatric eating disorder setting preferred.
Competencies:
- Sounds knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act III, Mental Health Act and Consent to Treat Act
- Understanding of the DSM IV
- Excellent knowledge and demonstrated use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Family Based Therapy (FBT) and Dialectical Based Therapy, with an eating disorder population
- Demonstrated expertise in assessment, psychoeducation, crisis intervention and advocacy skills in working with children, teens and their families experiencing eating disorders
- Excellent communication, organization, conflict resolution and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment with strong Time Management Skills
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and the ability to teach
- Proven ability to organize, prioritize and problem-solve effectively
- Willingness to travel between ED sites
- Stress and self-care management
- Advocacy skills

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, located in Barrie, Ontario, provides safe, high-quality care for residents across a large geographical region including Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka.
