Hours of work: 75 hours per pay period

Union: Non Union

Wage Range: $54.103 to $63.649 per hour

Position Objective

Reporting to the Manager of Labour Relations, the Consultant, Labour Relations will be a member of the team providing labour relations services in support of the organization's goals and objectives. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of labour relations including the interpretation and administration of the Hospital's six collective agreements, negotiations, restructuring initiatives and providing guidance and support to senior management, directors and managers on a wide variety of issues. This is a busy function with multiple and conflicting priorities. This position, based in Welland, involves travel between the sites of the Hospital.

Qualifications:

  • University degree related to Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or Labour Relations
  • Demonstrated progress towards a CHRP designation
  • A minimum of four years' experience in labour relations, including; handling grievances, participating in negotiations, conducting investigations, and working with managers to implement restructuring plans. Experience preferably achieved in a Hospital setting with multiple unions
  • Knowledge of employment related legislation and current employment practices
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective presentation skills, proven conflict resolution and negotiation skills, along with a strong work ethic
  • Experience in leading projects/initiatives to successful completion
  • Committed to continuous learning (internal and external to the organization)
  • Demonstrated excellent project management skills and commitment to NH mission, vision and values
  • Proficient computer skills including a proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, leadership, judgment, critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
  • Consistent and regular attendance required
