MENTAL HEALTH WORKER

NATURE OF WORK:

The mental health worker will offer consultative support to school teams, intervention with students and families, and liaison with community agencies. The goal of the mental health worker is to enhance the overall functioning and academic performance of students and will work collaboratively as a part of a school team in helping students to attain their academic potential. In addition, the mental health worker will provide services to students who are experiencing difficulties within their environment that have an impact on their ability to function in school.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Works with staff, families and students to provide fast access to high quality services;
  • Provides direct mental health and addictions support services to students and connect with families when appropriate
  • Provide early identification and timely support and assessment of students enhanced through referrals to community mental health.
  • Provide services to students in crisis and respond to tragic events
  • Provide support and strategies to educators and school administrators to support student learning in alignment with the school based IEP’s health care plans and learning plans.
  • Consults and collaborates and liaising with outside agencies and professionals to provide enhanced access to mental health supports, services and agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of a degree (Masters or Bachelor) in Social Work, Clinical/School of Psychology, or a member of a registered healthcare professional in a related field;
  • Minimum of 2 years progressive related experience.
  • Member in good standing of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or college governing mental health professionals;
  • Clinical experience with youth and the ability to work within a school district setting, across the tiers of mental health intervention (promotion, prevention, intervention, crisis and system navigation);
  • Fluent understanding of evidence-informed practice and knowledge of mobilization in schools;
  • Ability to regularly attend work.
