Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, ATS Learning Technology, the TSS Course Maintenance Specialist is responsible for maintaining the integrity and consistency of simulation-based training exercises in alignment with national and regional strategies.

This role involves designing, updating, and enhancing simulation exercises and documentation in both official languages, while ensuring compliance with established policies and standards. The Specialist manages the preparation, distribution, and support of simulation materials for regional training units, promoting standardization and adherence to the systems approach to training. They also identify and implement updates to simulations in response to technological changes, and provide support to regional units in the delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of simulation-based training initiatives and systems. Working closely with instructors, developers, and operational experts to continuously improve training solutions.

Additionally, the Specialist participates in simulation delivery by role-playing pilots, controllers, and other units, using appropriate phraseology and adapting scenarios to meet instructional objectives. The role also includes testing and supporting learning technology equipment and software to ensure functionality and training effectiveness on a national scale.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop, maintain, execute, and enhance simulation exercises and documentation in both official languages, ensuring standardization and conformance to policies, standards and criteria, Manual of Air Traffic Services (MATS), and Systems Approach to Training.
  • Coordinate, prepare, distribute, and support simulation and simulator materials to regional training units, ensuring standardization.
  • Recommend and develop operational simulation programs and requirements for NAV CANADA operational units in accordance with policies, procedures, standards and criteria.
  • Provide support to regional training units in the delivery, monitoring and assessment of simulation training initiatives and simulator support.
  • Test and document new learning technology hardware and software.
  • Perform other related duties relevant to the operational and technical training programs.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Extensive and varied experience in the design, development and maintenance of databases, simulation exercises, and basic simulator administration functions.
  • Experience troubleshooting resolving, and reporting technical issues related to simulation platforms.
  • Experience providing technical guidance or training to others.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and delivering projects on time.

Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of all aspects of the Air Traffic Services system including procedures and techniques and an operating knowledge of all equipment gained through successful completion of formal training courses and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of simulator databases including related exercise production and editing files.
  • Knowledge of operating systems including Windows and Unix.
  • Knowledge of operating characteristics of all operational systems and input / output devices.
  • Knowledge of airspace, organization and procedures of ATC/FSS operations, including High/Low Level, Terminal, Oceanic, and Arctic units.
  • Current knowledge of aircraft performance and airmanship.

Working conditions:

  • Occasional travel required.
  • This position is a hybrid position with a minimum – 1 day per week on site. However, effective this Fall (2025) there is a requirement of the employee to be in the office a minimum of 3 days per week.
