About the role
GenCore Ltd. is seeking an experienced Project Engineer – Utility Design to lead the engineering, coordination, and delivery of dry utility infrastructure projects within Light Rail Transit (LRT), transportation, municipal, telecommunications, and electrical utility environments. Reporting to the Project Manager, Utility Design, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing utility design activities, reviewing engineering deliverables, mentoring technical staff, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards and client requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong engineering expertise, leadership capabilities, and extensive experience delivering utility relocation and infrastructure projects within major transportation and transit corridors. Key Responsibilities · Exercise engineering authority over the review and approval of dry utility design drawings, calculations, specifications, and construction packages spanning telecommunications, electrical distribution, streetlighting, and related utility infrastructure. · Direct utility coordination and relocation programs associated with Light Rail Transit (LRT), transportation, and municipal infrastructure mandates. · Furnish technical leadership and engineering guidance to designers, technicians, and junior engineering staff in support of project objectives. · Contribute to the planning and execution of engineering and construction programs, including the definition of scope, schedule, milestones, resourcing, and overall execution strategy. · Conduct technical reviews of project designs to confirm compliance with engineering principles, CSA standards, municipal standards, utility requirements, and client specifications. · Evaluate proposed design changes and formulate technical recommendations and engineering improvements for adoption by the project team. · Oversee project schedules, budgets, and resource utilization to enable on-time, on-budget delivery of project outcomes. · Provide oversight of project personnel accountable for design development, technical reviews, and project execution activities. · Direct the coordination of technical activities, scheduling requirements, and issue resolution across multidisciplinary project teams. · Govern the preparation and issuance of project documentation, including engineering reports, permit packages, design drawings, construction packages, as-built drawings, and turnover documentation. · Serve as the engineering point of contact with clients, utility owners, municipalities, contractors, and regulatory agencies to advance project objectives. · Assist Project Managers in project planning, client coordination, design reviews, and stakeholder engagement activities. · Compile and present project status reports, technical review findings, and progress updates to project teams and senior management. · Reinforce quality assurance and quality control programs, ensuring that company procedures and project requirements are consistently applied. · Champion a strong safety culture and uphold compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety requirements. · Mentor junior engineers, designers, and technicians, fostering their professional development and technical advancement.
Qualifications · A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is required. · A current Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is required. · A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience on Light Rail Transit (LRT) or major transportation infrastructure projects is required. · A minimum of seven (7) to eight (8) years of utility engineering and design experience is required. · Demonstrated experience leading utility relocation and coordination programs within transportation corridors is required. · An advanced working knowledge of telecommunications, electrical distribution, streetlighting, and dry utility infrastructure is required. · A strong working knowledge of municipal standards, utility standards, and permitting requirements is required. · A proven ability to operate autonomously and to exercise leadership with minimal supervision is required. · A demonstrated track record of managing multiple projects and competing priorities within a fast-paced environment is required. · Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and stakeholder management capabilities are required. · An evident commitment to safety, quality, and project delivery excellence is required. · Prior exposure to utility companies, transit agencies, municipalities, or consulting engineering firms is regarded as an asset.
Compensation · Hourly Rate: $48 – $57 per hour
