This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).
Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and is based on the income scale of the six-step Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).
The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenure-track appointment with the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.

This position is a part of the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).
This full-time (1.0 FTE), tenure-track (contingent) position comprises approximately 60% time for clinical service and 40% time for academic pursuits, divided between research, teaching, and administrative duties (negotiable).

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is Canada’s first and largest province-wide, fully integrated health system, responsible for delivering health services to the over four million people living in Alberta as well as to some residents of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. The Stollery Children’s Hospital is a full-service pediatric hospital and centre for complex pediatric care and research. It is the only specialized healthcare facility for infants, children and youth in central and northern Alberta. It has among the highest inpatient volumes of any children’s hospital in Canada and serves a geographical area of over 500,000 km.
The successful applicant will join 5 pediatric nephrologists providing a full spectrum of clinical services. In addition to clinical care, the division is active in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and has a fully accredited Pediatric Nephrology subspecialty-training program through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The division also has an active basic and clinical science research program, collaborating locally, nationally, and internationally.

The Women and Children’s Health Research Institute (WCHRI) supports researchers within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Alberta Health Services. With a focus on advancing women’s, children’s, and perinatal health, WCHRI provides extensive resources for faculty conducting research in these areas.
As a member of WCHRI, the successful candidate will have access to funding opportunities, biostatistical expertise, qualitative design support, knowledge translation resources, and clinical trials services. WCHRI also invests in research development by supporting trainees through scholarships, fellowships, and travel grants for presenting research outcomes.
The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of the world’s top academic health science centres. With 21 departments, multiple research institutes and centres, and a focus on excellence in education, research, and clinical care, the faculty trains outstanding medical and dental professionals and drives global health innovation in collaboration with partners across sectors.
- Clinical Excellence: Provide a full spectrum of clinical services including inpatient ward coverage, ambulatory pediatric nephrology clinics, and patient care meetings. The successful applicant will be required to cover a variety of clinics including transplant, peritoneal dialysis, hypertension, general nephrology, and CKD. The physician will be required to provide call coverage for a proportional share of nights and weekends, on a rotational basis.
- Education and Mentorship: Teach and mentor learners at all levels in clinical and academic settings.
- Research Contribution: Conduct impactful research in Pediatric Nephrology and engage with the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute (WCHRI), which provides a robust infrastructure for research excellence in women’s and children’s health.
- Collaboration and Engagement: Work closely with other programs, interdisciplinary teams, and healthcare professionals to advance Pediatric Nephrology care and the education of Pediatric Nephrology trainees.
Interested applicants must have:
- MD degree (or equivalent)
- Master’s degree or higher
- Completed subspecialty training in Pediatrics and subspecialty residency in Pediatric Nephrology.
- Certified or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Pediatric Nephrology) or equivalent.
- Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
