This position offers some flexible work location from home (50/50) within daily commute from Kelowna.

Salary Range Salary range for the position is $88,990 to $127,923. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

About The Job In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, the Senior Coordinator, Payroll, in collaboration with the Manager, is responsible for the management of designated staff; the accurate payment of wages and benefits for Interior Health employees, physicians and Board Members; and the financial reporting requirements while maintaining a customer service focus.

Typical Duties And Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the day-to-day activities of the assigned areas of Payroll Services by determining priorities, coordinating and scheduling work based on department priorities; develops processes and methods for project implementation resulting from strategic initiatives and ensures that initiatives are carried out in accordance with the goals, policies and vision of Interior Health.
  • Accountable for the maintenance of the computerized payroll software module, ensuring updates are compliant with current Federal and Provincial statutory requirements, Collective Agreements, generally accepted accounting principles, MIS Guidelines, and regional policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of the biweekly pay processing cycle including processing, auditing, and reconciling accounts ensuring all legislative requirements (tax compliance, superannuation) are met including third party vendors that provide benefit coverage.
  • Provides leadership within and around Financial Services to facilitate the achievement of the mission, goals, and objectives of the Financial Services department.
  • Responsible for the human resource function for the assigned areas of Payroll Services including selection, evaluation, development, discipline, and, if necessary, termination of staff. Negotiates essential service levels.
  • Responsible for planning, approving, and implementing automations to affect bargaining unit jobs. Coordinates payroll functions, ensuring processing efficiencies, audit controls, and appropriate accounting practices are followed.
  • Monitors operating budget expenditures for assigned area and conducts variance analysis and reporting.
  • Responsible for the process to maximize collection of amounts owing by employees related to compensation matters (i.e. employee paid benefits, recovery of wages, etc.).
  • Accountable for legislative reporting requirements.
  • Provides or coordinates system support for Payroll module, along with liaison regarding timekeeping modules/systems.
  • Liaises with facilities and departments, including customer support to all sites. Analyzes payroll data and prepares reports as assigned.
  • Coordinates remittances of all payroll deductions.
  • In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
