As a dedicated member of the Nutrition Food Service (NFS) team, you could make a significant impact by providing nutritious, healthy, high quality meal service to patients, residents, staff, visitors, and the community. This PT position is located at South Health Campus. You will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident, and customer experience. Under the general supervision of a Food Services Supervisor, you will use your customer service, teamwork and organizational skills to independently: Prepare, handle, portion and package food and beverages. Assemble trays in the kitchen and/or serve meals in a dining room setting. Provide patient meal delivery and pick up. Order and put away unit supplies. Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment. Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines. The successful candidate will be able to: Work independently in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy. Work under pressure in high stress situations. Communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments. Demonstrate critical thinking skills and initiative. Work as an effective, professional team member. Demonstrate a patient first approach as outlined in the AHS Foundational Strategies. Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions.

Description:

As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Food service experience is an asset. Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English effectively. Demonstrated reliability, cooperation, and professionalism in both appearance and work habits. Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision. Knowledge of safe food handling practices and routine sanitation procedures. Strong motor coordination and manual dexterity. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to departmental guidelines and standards. Physically fit to meet the demands of the role. Ability to follow simple instructions and interpret basic calculations or drawings. Successful completion of a literacy test as required by department policy. Excellent attendance record, with reliability and personal suitability verified through employment history and references. Basic proficiency in computer applications and related technology. All new employees must be able to attend 1-4 days of Patient Food Services’ new employee orientation.

Preferred Qualifications:

1 year customer service experience. 1 year food service experience. Experience in a hospital or long-term care environment. Experience with inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates, and minimizing waste while utilizing “First In – First Out” procedures. Experience with Commercial Food Service Equipment. Food Safe Certification or equivalent. WHMIS training.
