Position Overview

Responsible for optimizing data management related to water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. This includes collecting, managing, and analyzing monitoring data while utilizing the corporate Geographic Information System (GIS)and developing effective data management strategies. Additionally, assist with the hydraulic modelling initiative, research, reporting, and project initiatives through compiling information, summarizing data, and preparing background materials, presentations, and reports.

Responsibilities

Technical Duties:

• Monitor data consolidation, management and analysis.

• Assist with the collection, compilation, and organization of infrastructure and monitoring data in support of Infrastructure Planning, and/or other research initiatives.

• Assist in developing infrastructure mapping.

• Assist with the hydraulic modelling initiative.

• Assist technical staff with minor engineering calculation and preliminary design activities.

• Identify and validate data gaps in the corporate GIS database and hydraulic model.

• Review engineering drawings of municipal assets, including as-constructed, plan and profile, and design drawings to identify and validate modelled information.

• Perform analysis of the available data.

• Conduct field visits and validate modelled and monitored data.

• Assist in developing optimization strategies for water, wastewater and stormwater systems.

• Perform other municipal servicing work-related duties as assigned.

Research and Reporting:

• Prepare data and other information related to department initiatives, projects, and programs.

• Provide support including research, writing, and coordinating background material for meetings and reports.

• Assist with documentation such as preparing meeting minutes, correspondences, reports, and memos.

Interactions with Others:

• Liaise with various City departments.

• Attend meetings with internal/external stakeholders.

• Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, internal/external stakeholders.

• Consult and engage with residents, businesses and community partners in courteous and a professional manner.

• Resolve inquiries or concerns promptly and efficiently.

Other Duties

• Perform other related tasks and projects as assigned, which are in accordance with job responsibilities or necessary department and corporate objectives.

• Responsible for ensuring compliance with the:

o Ontario Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

o Corporate Health and Safety policies and related procedures.

o Corporate Privacy and Intellectual property policies.

o Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and other related legislation.

Qualifications and Experience

• Currently enrolled in, or recent completion of Civil, Environmental or Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering Technologist, Geographic Information Systems, Geomatics Engineering or related program is required.

• Prior co-op work term and/or coursework in water/wastewater water resources or related sectors is an asset.

• Working knowledge of Hydrology and Hydraulic modelling software is an asset.

• Thorough knowledge of a GIS software package and/or knowledge of the ESRI ArcGIS software.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, Power BI and Power Point.

• Ability to work under time constraints and to meet deadlines.

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate effective oral and written communications.

• Required to possess an Ontario ‘Class G’ Drivers’ License in good standing.

• Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.
