About the role

Overview

Responsible for the timely and accurate coding and abstracting of patient related health information, assists in the completion of hospital and departmental data quality assurance and provides support regarding release of patient information if required.

EDUCATION

Graduate from an accredited Health Information Management Program (formerly Health Record Administrator Program). Must have successfully completed & passed the National Certification Exam through the Canadian Health Information Management Association, formerly the Canadian College of Health Records Administrators.

Qualifications

Certified Health Information Professional with the Canadian Health Information Management Association formerly the Canadian College of Health Records Administrators. Active member in good standing with CHIMA (previously CHRA) and the Ontario HealthInformation Management Association. Minimum two years’ experience with coding in an acute treatment facility with experience in ICD10-CA/CCI is required Familiarity and understanding of ICD-10-CA/CCI Coding Classification and CIHI Guidelines. Knowledge of Electronic Abstracting System (Med2020). Knowledge of Cerner EMR Demonstrated working knowledge of electronic patient health record preferrably Cerner Familiarity and understanding of grouping (case mix/ HBAM/ QBP) methodologies. Familiarity and understanding of release of patient information. Understanding of hospital by-laws, policies and Legislative Acts. Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills. Demonstrated communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Ability to type a minimum of 60 wpm accurately and timely Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access is required Working knowledge of Internet (on-line) resources such as CIHI website for queries. Working knowledge of Crystal Reports as they apply to the abstracting system for purpose of QA. Good work and attendance record required.
