Job Summary
The Manager, Gas Scheduling – Canada is responsible for leading and developing the Canadian gas scheduling organization while ensuring the reliable and accurate execution of daily natural gas logistics activities across pipeline and storage networks.
This role plays a critical leadership function within the gas operations organization, partnering closely with trading, commercial, risk management, and pipeline operators to support the successful execution of physical natural gas transactions.
Beyond operational excellence, the Manager will be responsible forbuilding and sustaining a high-performing team, fostering a culture rooted in collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Manager will also play a key role in strengthening organizational capabilities, developing talent, and ensuring the gas scheduling function is positioned to support the evolving needs of the commercial business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Canadian Gas Scheduling team, providing clear direction, coaching, and mentorship to build a strong and sustainable organization.
- Foster a culture aligned withNRG’s core values, emphasizing safety, accountability, integrity, collaboration, and operational excellence.
- Build organizational capability through talent development, succession planning, and performance management.
- Encourage innovation and process improvement while ensuring operational discipline and reliability.
- Oversee daily natural gas scheduling activities including nominations, confirmations, balancing, and pipeline coordination across Canadian markets.
- Ensure accurate and timely execution of physical gas movements in compliance with pipeline tariffs, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations.
- Monitor operational constraints, pipeline notices, and system conditions to proactively manage scheduling activities.
- Partner closely with trading and commercial teams to ensure operational alignment with commercial strategies.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders including trading, commercial operations, risk management, and settlements teams.
- Coordinate with pipeline operators and counterparties to ensure seamless operational execution.
Process and Systems Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, scalability, and reliability of scheduling operations.
- Support implementation and optimization of scheduling tools, automation, and reporting capabilities.
- Develop and maintain operational procedures and best practices to support consistent execution across the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field preferred. -7–10+ years of experiencein natural gas scheduling, logistics, or energy operations.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams in an operational or commercial energy environment.
- Strong knowledge of natural gas pipeline scheduling processes including nominations, confirmations, balancing, and capacity management.
- Experience working with Canadian pipeline systems and markets (e.g.,TC Energy, NGTL, Enbridge, Alliance, TransCanada).
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with trading and commercial teams to support physical market operations.
- Strong understanding of pipeline tariffs, operational constraints, and regulatory frameworks.
