New Afton Mine
Situated 10 kilometers west of picturesque Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.
About the Role
Schedule: Flexible schedule; 4x3 or 5x2
Position Reports To: Senior Hydrogeologist
Position Overview: We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Geoscientist / Engineer commencing in January 2026. This position is also open to Geoscientists or Engineers in Training and will report to the Senior Hydrogeologist, and provide assistance to the Environment, Lands and Permitting Team. The position includes a blend of field and office work and will provide exposure to wide variety of mining and environmental projects. New Afton Mine is an underground mine and comfortability working in an underground setting is an important aspect of the position.
Key Responsibilities
-
Monitoring and reporting of inflows for the underground mine (water quantity and quality);
-
Maintain the site wide operational water balance model and provide input to water management activities;
-
Track and monitor the underground water balance;
-
Support for hydrogeological investigations with specific aspects related to the cave zone hydrology as part of the Underground Water Management and Mudrush Management Teams;
-
Support surface water and groundwater monitoring and investigations and associated data management.

Project coordination and contractor supervision; and
-
Safety conscious and ability to act as the ELP departmental safety lead / guide for underground access.
Qualifications
-
A degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or Environmental/Mining Engineering;
-
Registered, or eligible for registration as a P.Geo/P.Eng
-
Registered EIT/GITs with 2+ years’ experience may be considered
-
2-5 years practical water or hydrogeological experience working at, or as a consultant for, a mine or similar heavy industry
-
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and environmental data database or modelling software (i.e. EQuiS, goldsim, etc)
-
Class 5 Driver’s License and access to personal transportation.
Preference will be given to those with:
-
Leadership of field programs;
-
Experience in the mining sector or water management in other sectors;
-
Organization and analysis of monitoring data; and
-
Technical writing, presentation and report compilation.
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:

Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
-
Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license

Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
-
Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this position is between $93,000 and $113,000. A competitive performance bonus plan and benefits will be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
