Job Summary

The VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure)- Analyst engages in comprehensive support for VDI endpoints, focusing on platform optimization and advanced VDI architecture and design. Delivers expert functional and technical guidance to both technical teams and management, ensuring effective implementation and strategic enhancement of VDI solutions. Preference will be given to VMware Certified Professional - Desktop and Mobility (VCP-DTM), MCSE, CompTIA Server+, Security+ and similar certifications.

Key Accountabilities:

  • VDI Management & Support: Maintain and support the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), including vSphere, vCenter, Horizon desktops, and related components.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide advanced expertise in VDI technologies, optimize platform performance, resolve endpoint issues, and operate across complex environments.
  • Planning & Incident Management: Contribute to planning with clear estimations and manage incident tickets in alignment with SLAs.
  • Documentation & Transition Support: Create and maintain technical documentation; support training and change management during system transitions.
  • Team Development & Compliance: Mentor junior team members and promote adherence to NAV CANADA’s IT safety and quality standards.

Job Requirements

Education:

Degree from a recognized university or community college with an acceptable specialization in computer, electrical engineering, systems engineering, computer science or information systems, or an acceptable combination of education, experience and training.

Experience:

  • 3- 5 years experience configuring and managing VMWare Horizon
  • 3- 5 years of experience in Windows system administration including server operating systems and Active Directory.
  • Experience scripting, automation skills and experience with PowerShell, task scheduler, logon group policies.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge in customizing Windows Operating System images for VDI-specific optimization.
  • Knowledge in software packaging and deployment processes to ensure reliable software delivery to virtual desktops.
  • Knowledge of modern system life cycle processes, practices and techniques, including Agile, Scrum and DevOps
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity considerations in infrastructure technologies, systems and services.
  • Knowledge of project management processes and procedures.

Abilities:

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve VDI-related incidents and service requests through a structured ticketing system.
  • Ability to diagnose, analyze, and correct complex system and service deficiencies, and recommend improvements where needed.
  • Ability to communicate technical solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical clients.
  • Ability to engage professionally with customers, stakeholders, management, and external consultants to ensure effective resolution of issues.
  • Ability to prepare accurate, concise, and user-friendly documentation to support colleagues, management, and end users.

Working conditions:

  • This position is based at Ottawa Technical Systems Centre, Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, ON.
  • This position is a hybrid position with a minimum – 3 days per week on site.
  • This role may require participation in an on-call rotation.
