Job Description

McCann Calgary is looking for a Group Account Director to join our team working on a fast-paced marquis Canadian brand. Successful candidates will be seasoned account management professionals who are highly organized and thrive in an environment where expectations are high, and timelines are short. A passion for building client relationships is a must.

The Team

The McCann Canada Business Leadership team is comprised of driven, inspired, and nimble individuals capable of rising to any occasion. Our goal is to create work that allows brands to play a meaningful role in consumers’ lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the national business lead for a key agency account, acting as a trusted advisor and primary day-to-day contact for senior stakeholders.
  • Provide ongoing brand consultation and brand stewardship, for once of Canada’s leading consumer brands.
  • Work closely with creative and strategic leads on the given pieces of business.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive brand and communications strategies that align with business objectives and leverage full agency capabilities.
  • Oversee end-to-end campaign delivery, from creative briefs and production to activation, optimization, and reporting.
  • Build long-term client partnerships by deeply understanding their business and competitive landscape.
  • Lead and mentor account teams (Account Directors, Account Supervisors, and Account Executives), providing guidance, conducting performance reviews, and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Identify growth opportunities within client portfolios, including cross-service upsell potential and new business pitches.
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and contractual agreements with diligence, ensuring smooth workflows across internal teams and external vendors.
  • Represent McCann Canada at industry and client events, promoting agency thought leadership and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 8 + years in agency-side account management, including at least 3–5 years at director or senior manager level.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop multidisciplinary teams. We're looking for a leader who’s not only strategic but also willing to roll up their sleeves and dive into the details when needed - someone who leads by example and supports the team hands-on.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong conceptual and analytical skills - capable of shaping big ideas and driving them to execution.
  • Client-centric Approach: Skilled at building credibility with senior client executives and managing complex relationships.
  • Project Excellence: Exceptional planning and organizational skills - managing multiple campaigns and delivering high-quality work on time and on budget.
  • Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and presentation abilities; comfortable addressing diverse audiences.
  • Commercial Acumen: Budget management savvy; ability to uncover and act on new revenue opportunities.
  • Digital Literacy: Familiarity with digital, social, media, and integrated campaigns is essential.
