Division: Water/Wastewater Treatment and Compliance
Department: Community Infrastructure
Initial Reporting Location: Wanapitei Water Treatment Plant

Job Status: Casual Part Time positions

Affiliation: CUPE 4705 Outside Unit
Hours of Work: Up to 48 hours bi-weekly
Shift Work Required: No
Rate of Pay: $30.02 to $34.42 per hour

Characteristic Duties: Under the supervision of a Water Supervisor or the Quality Compliance Officer.

  1. Assist Operators and tradespersons in the performance of their duties. Relieve Operator during his/her absence.
  2. Perform assigned inspections of the facilities and preventive maintenance duties of all equipment, buildings, and sites to ensure facility is operating effectively.
  3. Record operational data. Collect samples and/or perform routine laboratory tests.
  4. Will be required to work on a seven (7) day/twenty four (24) hour schedule or standby schedule, as directed.
  5. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
  6. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
  • Successful completion of a relevant two year post-secondary diploma from a recognized college considered an asset.
  • Applicants must be certified as Operator-in-Training and obtain certification as Water Treatment Level 1 and Water Distribution Level 1 within 18 months. Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain certification in good standing.
  • Current First Aid, CPR and WHMIS safety training considered an asset.
  • Water treatment and distribution operating experience considered an asset.
  • Must be able to complete operational logs and checklists, and CMMS work orders
  • Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying 20 kgs.
  • Ability to perform confined space duties, including entry, mandatory.
  • Ability to use related software programs such as CMMS, MS Office.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
  • Provide, at own cost, a current Criminal Record Check.
  • May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's license, and have an acceptable driving record.

This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.

Development opportunity rate of pay: $28.52 to $32.70 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
