About the role

Romspen is a leading Canadian non-bank mortgage lender specializing in commercial and industrial real estate mortgages. Our investments are comprised primarily of commercial and industrial first mortgages on properties across Canada and the United States. We provide customized mortgage solutions for term, bridge, and construction financing.

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, the Senior Accountant is responsible for delivering timely and accurate financial reporting for an assigned portfolio of properties, as well as overseeing the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the portfolio. The successful candidate will operate in a professional, fast-paced environment to meet reporting demands amidst daily funding deadlines and a constantly evolving industry.

Responsibilities

Maintain the integrity and accuracy of investor records. Process wire payments for assigned properties accurately and on time. Provide backup support for other members of the finance team as required. Manage quarterly investor distributions and return of capital calculations, utilizing manual processing, Yardi Bill Pay, ACH, and wire transfer methods; address investor-specific matters such as transfers and unique distribution arrangements. Prepare comprehensive Asset Management Reports for the assigned portfolio. Review and assess reporting packages submitted by third-party property managers. Handle miscellaneous reporting requests such as summary of units held per partner by portfolio, investor’s query on T5013 slips and amendments thereof. Undertake additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Minimum three years of progressive accounting experience. Post-secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration. Demonstrated experience in real estate accounting (required). Experience with Yardi property management software (required). Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with particular strength in Excel, including the ability to design and maintain clearly formatted worksheets and financial models. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational ability, and effective analytical problem-solving. Proven ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and consistently meet tight deadlines in a results-driven environment. Ability to think analytically and conduct independent research and investigations. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development within commercial real estate and financial operations.
