Hays Civil Construction team in Toronto are partnered with our client as they continue to grow, hiring a Health and Safety Officer.
Your new Company
The company is a General Contractor focused in civil municipal and provincial projects across the GTA. Due to continued growth, they are excited to welcome aboard a Health and Safety Officer to join the team.
Your new Role
The Health and Safety Officer will assist in mitigating risk by performing investigations, incidents, accidents and audits. Represent the Company as a HSE contact receiving inquiries from clients, subcontractors and external entities (e.g., Unions, MOL and WSIB). Your day to day duties will be to: represent and work cooperatively with employees, clients, government entities, and subcontractors on health and safety issues; Ensure regulatory compliance on the job site and abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations; audit site safety performance and evaluate implementation, recommending corrective actions and follow up to ensure implementation, participating in and advising on investigations determining the cause and corrective actions to prevent recurrence; Conduct orientations with new and returning workers; Participate and organize corporate health and safety committee meetings; Accompany third part inspectors during site reviews; Oversee compliance to issues identified during third party inspections; File safety documentation; work with human resources to create and implement new company policies while ensuring old policies are still relevant and up to date; Ensure all safety equipment is in good working order and replace any that is in non-compliance; Complete respirator fit testing to all employees that use respirators; Assist in the COR audits; Complete site-specific safety plans; Administration duties as required; Track and review safety paperwork submissions for accuracy and completeness; Perform monthly site inspections.
What you’ll need to Succeed
To succeed as the Health and Safety officer, you will bring post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety. Along with 3–5 years of experience in a safety role. Your experience must come from a construction environment. Additional Health and Safety Certifications are highly valued, and if you are working toward your NCSO, this is an asset. You will be a solid communicator, who is solid with critical thinking and has the ability to mitigate risks.
What you’ll get in Return
As the Health and Safety Officer, you will earn a base salary of $85, 000.00- $100, 000.00, plus potential bonus, benefits, and RRSP. You will also have a company vehicle in this role. Further, you will be joining an established and reputable business and investing in your construction career for the long term.
