Material Supervisor - Development Opportunity

About the role

The Material Supervisor Development Opportunity is a structured 24‑month program designed to prepare employees for supervisory roles within logistics and warehousing operations. The program combines technical training, leadership development, and practical experience to build capability in safety leadership, work coordination, communication, and decision‑making. Participants are supported through a defined development plan that promotes accountability, continuous improvement, and long‑term career progression.

This role provides operational support at Woodside Industries while enhancing absence coverage across multiple locations. It offers meaningful leadership experience within a unionized environment and is designed to enable successful progression into a supervisory role.

Warehouse Operations

  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, ensuring DPS and Safe Start procedures are completed prior to work commencement.
  • Participate in daily production meetings and contribute material status updates to support planning.
  • Monitor warehouse operations to ensure priorities are met and commitments are delivered.
  • Support multiple trades through accurate and timely material delivery.

Communication & Coordination

  • Assist with issue resolution and daily priority setting.
  • Prepare and present reports as required.
  • Maintain communication boards with current production and schedule metrics.

Achieving Results

  • Establish clear commitments and consistently deliver on expectations.
  • Identify and proactively manage operational risks and challenges.
  • Model organizational values and reinforce sound business practices.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify best practices and implement process improvements.

  • Encourage innovation and adoption of new ways of working.

  • Support change initiatives and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented improvements.

  • Post‑secondary education in a related discipline.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills through leading or influencing others.

  • Strong customer focus with effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Minimum of four years of relevant work experience.

  • At least one year of experience with Irving Shipbuilding.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
