Job Description
On behalf of our client, Affinity is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to lead the migration of approximately 22 SQL Server databases from SQL Server 2016 to SQL Server 2022 across test and production environments. The successful consultant will be responsible for migration execution, validation, production cutover, troubleshooting, and post-migration support.
Responsibilities
Database Migration & Upgrade
Lead the migration and upgrade of SQL Server databases from SQL Server 2016 to SQL Server 2022. Execute database backup, restore, migration, and validation activities. Review and implement required database configurations and optimizations. Validate database availability, functionality, and performance following migration activities. Coordinate and execute production cutover activities during approved maintenance windows. Ensure database integrity, security, and operational stability throughout the migration process.
Testing & Validation
Perform post-migration database validation and health checks. Support application testing and user acceptance testing (UAT) activities. Validate application connectivity and database performance. Troubleshoot and resolve migration-related issues and defects. Identify and implement performance tuning opportunities as required.
Post-Migration Support
Provide stabilization support following production deployment. Resolve database, application, and environment issues arising from migration activities. Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and business stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. Document migration procedures, validation results, and operational handoff requirements.
Qualifications
8+ years of experience as a Database Administrator supporting enterprise SQL Server environments. Demonstrated experience leading SQL Server upgrade and migration projects. Strong experience with SQL Server administration, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and troubleshooting. Experience supporting clustered and production-critical SQL Server environments.
Hands-on experience with
SQL Server 2016, 2019, and/or 2022 SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) T-SQL Database Backup & Recovery Performance Monitoring & Optimization High Availability and Disaster Recovery Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft SQL Server certifications. Experience performing production cutovers and complex database modernization initiatives. Experience supporting enterprise applications during migration and testing activities.
