WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR?
Vice-President, Fund Development
The Vice President, Fund Development leads Tennis Canada’s fundraising strategy across Canada including major gifts, planned giving, and fundraising events. This national leadership role develops customized donor strategies and campaigns, cultivates major supporters, and aligns Tennis Canada’s fundraising efforts within its overall strategic and organizational goals. The VP provides visionary leadership to a high-performing team as well as the CEO, senior leadership team, and board of Tennis Canada to foster long-term, sustainable philanthropic investment in Tennis Canada’s mission and strategic plan.
Strategic Leadership
- Act as a senior representative of Tennis Canada with donors, the senior leadership team and board members to inspire investment and partnership advancing Tennis Canada’s philanthropic efforts
- Drive the development and national rollout of planned giving strategies and donor engagement that results in reaching or exceeding annual revenue targets.
- Work collaboratively with VP Marketing and VP Communications to craft, execute and optimize Tennis Canada’s national fundraising marketing and communications strategies and campaigns, advancing Tennis Canadas mission brand identity and increasing year over year fundraising revenue
- With the marketing team work to create marketing/public relations strategy that will allow Tennis Canada leadership to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including key influencers or donors
- Collaborate with various program leads to ensure alignment between impact, messaging and funding opportunities
- Foster an environment of creativity, innovation and continuous improvement, maintaining a visible presence throughout the organization and community
- Ensure adherence to operating policies and procedures, aligning with the organization’s commitment to integrity
- Accountable for financial performance, budget forecasting, and long-term growth planning.
Fundraising
- Build and execute a diversified fundraising strategy to grow unrestricted and programmatic revenue from foundations, corporations and individual donors
- Build, maintain and optimize a robust development infrastructure, overseeing donor databases, relationships, events and campaigns at a high level
- Personally steward major donors and funders, closing six and seven-figure gifts and partnerships
- Implement innovative initiatives to garner public interest and support
- Strategize partnerships with corporate foundations and family foundations, aligning with our mission
- Manage campaigns, project-specific fundraising initiatives and donor recognition programs as needed
Engagement
- Oversee NEW campaign messaging and storytelling to increase awareness, trust and engagement with audience
- Develop bold and exciting campaigns that inspire action and investment from national audiences, leveraging social media and coordinating press/media coverage
- Serve as a public spokesperson for Tennis Canada when appropriate and provide communications coaching to executive leadership team including preparing talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting materials as needed
- Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization, ensuring Tennis Canada stays ahead of trends, recognizing internal and external communications opportunities and solutions
People Leadership
- Provide leadership, coaching and mentorship to the team, fostering individual and team growth
- Recruit, coach, inspire, and motivate the fundraising team at Tennis Canada to achieve and exceed aspirational organizational goals.
- Promote a culture of high-performance, respect, and continuous improvement founded upon Tennis Canada’s values
- Oversee budgeting, strategic goal setting and performance reviews for team members
- Attract and retain top talent, ensuring professional development and succession planning where required
WHO YOU ARE?
- Demonstrated progressive leadership experience (15+ years) leading and building fundraising capacity, with demonstrated success in large gift donations, digital acquisition, donor retention, annual giving strategies, budgeting and forecasting.
- Demonstrated experience (10-15 years) crafting and executing successful fundraising marketing campaigns and communications strategies across various mediums
- Proven success in securing six and seven-figure gifts, including complex and multi-year agreements.
- Experience leading teams across major gifts, events, and donor engagement.
- Sophisticated understanding of revenue building, fundraising strategy, and public engagement
- Familiarity with planned giving strategies and foundation/family charitable grant processes
- Proficiency in CRM platforms (preferably) Salesforce
- Experience proactively building relationships with high-level strategic partners, and donors
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to craft compelling stories
- Strategic and results oriented mindset
- Experience in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
- Strong project management and time management skills
- A post-secondary degree in business, fundraising management, business administration, communications/marketing or related field is required
- Passion for sport required with familiarity of the Canadian tennis ecosystem an asset
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Full time Permanant Position
- Hybrid remote office schedule
- Willingness to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the department and position requirements
- Occasional travel is required to meet with prospects and manage external partnerships
- Reporting location is Toronto
- Managing direct reports
