About the role
The purpose of the role is to operate the Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) in a safe, effective and efficient manner .
Key Accountabilities
Duties and Responsibilities

Operate the LRV according to customer and safety requirements
-
Monitor displays, dials and other indicators to ensure LRV is operating effectively
-
Stop at each LRV stop, ensure the door opening and closing sequences in a safe manner
-
Assist customers with boarding and disembarking the LRV when required
-
Follow instructions the Central Control Facility (CCF) via radio system
-
Communicate updates on delays and incidents to passengers and CCF
-
Perform LRV checks for all equipment prior to service
-
Report LRV, station and depot defects to resolve as soon as possible
-
Respond to customer needs and follow Keolis’ practices in an emergency
-
Perform other duties as requested
Knowledge and Skills

Communicate clearly and concisely in English, both verbally and in writing

Strong attention to detail with a strong focus on safety and quality

Respond quickly, calmly and appropriately to emergency situations

Mechanical aptitude to understand general knowledge of LRV operation

Good problem-solving skills

Strong multi-tasking skills to respond effectively to the work environment and requirements

General geographical knowledge of Kitchener and Waterloo, is preferred
Experience
-
High school diploma, GED or equivalent.

Valid Class G driver's licence
-
Minimum 5 years licensed driving experience
-
Professional driving experience is an asset
Abilities

Able to differentiate colors, including distance vision and close vision
-
The ability to quickly respond to a signal (sound, light, image) when it appears
-
The ability to effective maintain the required control of the LRV
-
The ability to move and reach with hands, to grasp, manipulate or move objects
-
Ability to hear sounds and signals for effective operation of LRV and response to surroundings
-
Able to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally
-
Able to sit for extended periods of time
Working Conditions
-
Regular interaction with the public, including vulnerable persons as well as other Keolis employees
-
Exposed to the outdoors and weather conditions
-
Wear Personal Protective Equipment as required
Working Hours
- Based on a minimum of 25 hours per week
- Able to work rotating shifts, including afternoons and weekends
- Overtime as required.
